I used to be a veterinary technician and have worked at several hospitals from Long Beach, to West LA to Whittier. The closest I worked at to you would be Whittier, its Washington Blvd Animal Hospital on Whittier Blvd/Lambert near Presbyterian Hospital. The 2 doctors that I would recommed are Dr. Voorheis and Dr. Throgmorton, they are both very caring and understanding doctors and I continue to take my 2 babies to them. Dr. Voorheis just did a bladder surgery on my dog not too long ago.

Cancer can be a very hard and painful thing for both you and your dog. Dr. Voorheis will "tell you like it is" regarding what to do. Jusst be prepared that the treatment is VERY expensive if you decide to to Chemo. Some places even do radiation, but not there. Good luck and let me know how things go.

Hi,
I can't think of the name of the vet, but I know it's on South St. and Palos Verdes. That's where we took our dog. Was very happy with them.
Good luck!

I'm so sorry about your pet. I would like to recommend Cerritos South Vet Clinic on South across from the mall. It is one Vet, and she is very good. Her name is Dr. Kennedy, and the # is ###-###-####. We had to put our 17 year old mixed breed to sleep because she couldn't get around any more, and Dr. Kennedy was very gentle and compassionate. My husband had the dog before we got married, and Dr. Kennedy let my husband hold our dog in his arms as she slipped away. We had been going to her for about 10 years when that happened, and we still take our new dog to her.
Good luck, and I feel for you.
Sincerely,
B.

R.,
I am so sorry to hear about your family dog. I am not sure if you know - but they just built an animal hospital in Lakewood. It's on the corner of Palo Verde and South Street. I hope that you find a good solution for taking care of your pet.

R.,

I can completely understand. Our 13 year old Chow had a painful bleeding anal abscess, had trouble lifting his leg and couldn't squat.

We took him to Above and Beyond Pet Clinic in Downey. After vaguely looking at the abscess, Dr. Citek said it was a tumor. He told us that he'd like to sedate him and check to see if it was just an abscess, (it was huge and bleeding) although he had never seen an abscess that large.

We waited for them to give us a price. The girl went over everything and it was $715 just to sedate and probe! If it was a tumor, having him euthanized would be the best thing. We would have to pay the original $715 plus the euthanization fee of $99.

This was a horrible decision that my husband and I had to make, but we felt that it was best to eliminate his pain. That was one of the hardest things that we have ever done. We hugged him and cried before they came in, and were with him as he slipped away. They left us for awhile to be with him after.

Although I've always had a good experience with this vet, we felt that their compassion was lacking in this very sad time in our life. They did send us a sympathy card (with a cat on the front), but overall, we left feeling that they didn't really care. Maybe it's because they do this often, I don't know.
