Hi everyone! I am putting together a list of helpful resources for moms in the southern chester county/Kennett Square area. If anyone has any suggestions of things to include I'd appreciate it. Want to include books, activites, clubs, consignment shops/sales - anything that might be helpful to a pregnant/new mom or a preschool mom new to the area. I appreciate any reccomendations/suggestions you might have. THANKS!

There is Once Upon a Child in De. It's right on Rt 7 in the same shopping center as KMart. The clothes are usually in good condition and the prices are generally reasonable.

The other one is don't overlook Goodwill. Many people turn up their noses at it, but for kids clothes its great. You just have to be selective and careful, but who can beat the prices? The one on Kirkwood hwy seems to have pretty good stuff.

(Actually for grown up clothes sometimes you can get really lucky there too. I got a pair of brand new Feragamo shoes last year, still in the box, for $5!)

As far as activities go, Longwood Gardens (www.LongwoodGardens.com) is a great place to take little ones. They recently redesigned the outside and inside childrens' gardens (lots of fountains, so bring a change of clothes for the kids!). Adult admission is $16 and children 4 and younger are free (alternatively you can buy a 1 year adult pass for $60). During the weekdays there are lots of mothers, kids and strollers, so it's a nice place to meet other area moms too.

How about Barnard's Orchard - 1079 Wawaset Road? You can pick your own fruit there & pumpkins (along with a little store to buy other fresh produce and apple cider). Up the road is Northbrook Country Store (used to be a full operating orchard, but they sold out) that has wonderful apple cider donuts. On the same road around the beginning of October (maybe even end of September) is a corn maze.
There's also the Delaware Museum of Natural History (4840 Kennett Pike in Delaware - http://www.delmnh.org/) with plenty of "please touch" areas for the kids. They're open year-round & $6 for adults, $5 for kids 3-17.

As far as consignment shots there is the Growing Tree in town in Kennett on State St. and on Route 7 in Pike Creek, DE (approx. 15 mins.) there is another consignment shop but I forget the name it has a lot of toys, clothes and kid gear. The Kennett Library is great and there is a moonbounce adventure and boomers.
