Need Suggestions for Comfortable Baby Carrier

I am looking for advice on finding a really great baby carrier. I am expecting my second baby in early May and I have a 14 month old daughter. With my daughter we had a baby bjorn and I really hated it because it caused me so much lower back pain. I pretty much never used it. I also tried a few different types of slings but the problem I found with them all was that 1) I was not really hands free because if I would bend forward (to say, empty the dishwasher) the baby would swing forward also, nearly getting hit on things, and 2) my daughter was VERY wriggly and would never just lay still looking out like all those babies in the ads do - she just screamed until I let her out!
So, I am going to need my hands free more than ever this time with two so young but I just don't know what to buy. I was considering the new baby bjorn sport because it has the additional lumbar support. Has anyone had good luck with that? I need to be able to chase and play with my daughter as well as do house work all while keeping my newborn cozy and safe and my back (relatively) free from pain. Does a carrier like this exist?? Any advice would be so appreciated! Thanks moms!

I have the Ergo and the bjorn... loved them both but the Ergo was better, especially when they get older. I would put her on my back when she was old enough. She was comfortable in it as well....It was great! Very comfy...
you can find them at
http://www.babyonthegoathome.com/affiliates/jrox.php?id=18
for about $92.00 and if you use TENOFF1ST you will save 10% shipping isn't free unless you spend $100 though.... I paid 92.00 when I bought mine from a different place.

Good luck!

Check out at Mei Tei carrier. A little different than a sling, but the same type of idea. Here is a link w/ some pics.

I also love both the Maya Wrap Sling and the Ergo - get both. The Ergo is perfect for an older baby who can hold up his/her head. It is very comfortable for mom, baby and dad! I can still carry my three year old on my back with no pain! My two year old is up there pretty frequently! The Ergo carrier will face in towards your tummy for a younger baby - then when they are bigger you can put them on your back so they can see the world! The support strap around the waist is perfect and very adjustable. Are you close to West Hartford. Cari at Papaya Patch sells all kinds of carriers and has samples of everything out of the box so you can really see them. Good luck!

Are you sure you had the Bjorn adjustment clip low enough in the back. I used to have to reach back and pull the clip down- or have someone else yank it down - to get the X lower. I loved mine more than I can say. I am sure you will find one..but I have a better idea...bag the housework ! :) Good luck..

I saw someone wearing the Ergo carrier at a park when I was pregnant with my second and knew I had to have one. It has been awesome! If you get the infant insert you can use it right away, although if you have have a fast growing kid they don't need it for long (I think I used my insert twice!) You could actually probably just use a blanket instead. Anyway, check out ergocarrier.com - it's a little pricy, but worth it!

I agree that you can tighten the Maya wrap so that baby is snug against you. I also had a Moby Wrap when my kids were really little and it was great! It fits tight against your body and baby snuggles into your chest. I had a car accident when pregnant with my first and have had back issues since then....this wrap really took the weight off of any one area of my back and distributed it evenly between lower, middle and shoulders. I wore it for hours at a stretch.

J., I, too, used the Maya Wrap. It was awesome. It looks a little intimidating at first, but once you get used to tightening it up and working it, you'll love it.

Jesse, I used the Maya wrap with my second baby. It is a sling, so the baby can move around a bit, bit there is a video with it with lots of different ways to wear it, so maybe a different position would work. I have severe rheumatiod arthritis and the Bjorn was very uncomfortable for me. This was great, I used it till my daughter was almost three as support to help me carry her in stores. If you're nursing, it works great as a cover so you can nurse on the go! Check out the site- mayawrap.com. Good luck and congratulations!!

ERGO...definitely the best!!! I tried and returned several other brands before I discovered it. I've been using it with my daughter since about six months, she is now 18 months and it's still going strong. I can wear her on my back for hours without ANY discomfort!
