my 6yr old daughter has facial hair (mustache.) She is greek and has always been rather hairy. I thought it would go away but it hasnt and kids in her class and her neighborhood are starting to bug her. I dont want her to get a complex but i dont know what to do. Should I use facial removal cream for sensitive skin? I'm scared to mess with it at all. Please help.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all your advice....i appreciate it. I'm still not sure what to do lol. I too have that lovely mustache (hormone imbalance.) I do all kinds of things wax, cream etc. My biggest concern w/her is that the skin may discolor if i use cream since she's only 6. I wouldnt do laser yet....too young and the bleaching will show as she has olive complexion skin. The bleaching shows bad on me so I cant do that either. Wow it's rough being a woman!!!!!! At 6 the skin is so sensitive. It would be 10 times worse for her if i messed up her skin!

I would advise calling someone about laser hair removal. Hair, especially facial hair, can be a hard thing for a girl to deal with. These days children can be cruel so to keep from the pain of being made fun of, and if you and her both feel comfortable with it I would do the laser hair removal.

The biggest problem you will have if you start using facial hair removal cream is that the hair then typically grows back with a vengenance! I certainly know how cruel kids can be...not sure what is the best solution here, but I would be weary of waxing or removing the fdacial hair.

i also have this problem & have since i was this age...i am glad you are willing to try to help her! my mom was not & it was very embarrasing for me at that age. i also use a small hand personal razor, that is for sensitive areas...i used to wax which i liked but you have to be able to keep it up. i would not recommend bleaching or creams as i dont think they work well & might inflame her skin

One of my daughters started feeling embarrassed of the hair that crossed between her eyebrows (unibrow) when she was about 9. I first bought the "Finishing Touch" deal and just shaved between her eyebrows. One day I accidentally shaved too much. lol So I took her to get her eyebrows waxed to fix it. They did such a beautiful job that she tells me every 2-3 weeks now that she needs her eyebrows waxed. lol She is 12 now so we do keep it up.. but I think the "Finishing Touch" or something like it might be a good idea. I would be scared to try the creams, etc.. at such a young age also.

A friend of my neighbor does sugaring. It's like waxing, but much gentler. She has two girls, I think ages 6 and 8, and italian heritage so they have thick dark body hair. She sugars their arms and legs and has for a couple of years, she says it doesn't bother them at all.

the only suggestion I really have is to use something like a JOlene's (I think) bleach and to bleach it...then just use some really small scissors and then trim it down... that way it's light and also slight... Good luck...

I have done the above and it's worked fine with me...

I understand about the bleach also getting her skin lighter. And yes, waxing hurts a lot at first, but then the skin numbs up over time, and the hair starts to come in less... she is still a little young for the pain though! And I tried a removal cream once, and got TONS of blisters, and my upper lip hair isn't even that bad.

I second the finishing touch razor. It works great and won't leave any type of razor burn like using a regular razor would. It is only about $10.00 at Bed Bath and Beyond, Walmart, Walgreen's...

It runs out of batteries fast, but only requires 1, so just get a pack of batteries. If it breaks (I've replaced mine a couple of times) You can find them on sale everywhere, and it's cheaper in the long run than paying for waxes and creams and such.

My daughter is 12 and she interited a lot of hair from her Italian dad. She began to notice it a couple of years ago and became self conscious. Like you, I was not interested in the hair remover lotions and bleaches. I bought them both, at her request, and she did not have much luck with either. We also went to a laser hair removal place and we were told she was too young and that it would hurt. She is a pain freak with needles and anything having to to with medicine.

She now has a little battery powered shaver called (Bikini Touch) from Walgreens that was about $10-$15. She uses it on her upper lip and it has worked out fine. She might use it once every 2 weeks or so "when she feels like she needs it". We've had it about 3 yrs now and she has not complained again about the upper lip hair.

Good luck! Susan

Hello C.. AVON has a Facial Hair Lightening Gel that I use for my upper lip. It works for me. I have a 4-yr old who I may use it on (when she gets to that point too.) It makes hair lighter in color, softer and finer. It's also dermatologist tested. They also have hair lightening gel for the body. If you're not completely satisfied, you can return it for all your money back. It's worth the try. Good luck!

(I just happen to be a Beauty Advisor too.)

Hmmmm. This is a very difficult situation! I am also a very dark haired person with the same problem but being older I do wax my face. Perhaps talk to your pediatrician about this....or a dermatologist could possibly give you some advice. Good luck!

I have tried everything...waxing, bleach, nothing, you name it, and the best and easiest and least noticable has been using Nair for faces. Yay for you being willing to help her.

Oh C., I know your daughter's pain. I started using the Jolene bleach as a child and it worked great. I now wax but would not recommend that yet because it HURTS! For sure try the bleach it may be just enough to make it less noticeable and there is no pain involved. Good luck!
