Hello, so here's whats going on. My husband and I have been full time care givers of his mother for the last two years. We are only able to get out alone (date night) maybe once or twice a year. Needless to say we are getting burned out, we are in desperate need of a break and want to be able to take our daughter on a family vacation, quality time with just us. We also want another baby and want to know that there will be help availbale when needed. There is no other family that can help (mine live too far away and his is basically not in the picture). Does anyone know anyone who does in home care. We are looking for someone who can come one day to 7 days. She neededs help in the moring getting out of bed and dressed, meals made, and then put to bed at night. The rest of the day besides making lunch they can pretty much do whatever, they dont need to spend the night and we have dogs that would need to be fed if we are gone longer than one night. We would like to take a mini vacation to Disney with my daughter after Jan. I just dont know what company to call or who is reliable and not too exspensive (since we are paying out of pocket). Any help would be good, thanks so much for listening.

What can I do next?

Try www.ccvonline.com and check in their classifieds. I've seen ads for care besides childcare. check it out. hope you find something.

another resource may be if you have life or disability coverage through an employer, oftentimes that insurance company will have a built-in mini employee assistance program (EAP) that you can call to get local referrals for those types of services. Or if you're lucky, your (or your husband's) employer offers a full EAP. Good luck :o)

I know you can do a search for senior care providers in your area on the website: Care.com.

First, what an admirable and loving environment you have provided and given your MIL. You an angel :)

However, you definitely sound close to burn out. Please, please get help for you and your family before you reach your end. There are many resources available. Ask for assistance from a variety of sources: a local church, your own family doctors, your MIL's doctors, who hopefully specializes in geriatric issues, check our Dr. Laura's website as she has a link to providing safe, cost effective in-home care, contact a local nursing care facility for references and PT people, call you insurance and see what they will cover. I'm leary of going with people from the classified ads. I don't know if they are screened.

Best of luck,
Jennifer
