Need Referral for Car Repair

My 6-year old Toyota Camry just turned 100,000 miles and I'm thinking it needs a tune-up. Spark plugs, belts, that sort of thing because it sounds a bit rough.

Does anyone have a reasonable and reliable car shop they would recommend? I don't want to do the standard Firestone-type place because it's $75 for a diagnostics test and then they say all recommended repairs are urgent. I can't afford a huge car bill right now but certainly don't want to be stranded on a highway this winter.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
J. in Olathe, KS

We love Smith Specialty Automotive in Olathe ###-###-####. They are christian owned and very trustworthy. We used to go to another christian-owned place in Olathe (I'm forgetting the name right, but by the railroad tracks on Sante Fe), and they charged us twice as much and we had to continue returning the car because they didn't fix it. Also, we had a horrible experience at Christian Brothers Automotive.

Scott at All Pro is awesome! He goes way above and beyond and tries to make the best possible job for the least out of pocket. I trust him to work on all of our cars. He's very honest about his work.913/390-9145

my neighbor has a really good shop, but probably not feasible given the drive...Lee's on Metcalf and 79th. They are good about pulling up what service is recommended and then helping a person prioritize what needs/must/might need to be done.

Most shops go by what the manufacturer recommends for tune ups...I think you can probably look that up yourself. But Lee will tell you what you most 'need' - so if your brakes are bad he will suggest that say before a transmission service -- unless you are having trouble with the transmission. (He understands that people are on a budget..He will also ask about what your plans are for a car- do you want to keep it forever or do you plan on selling it in a year for example...)

I don't think he would run a diagnostic unless there were some issue ---I am not even sure that he has that particular computer anyway.

Christian Brothers - at 135th between Blackbob and Pflumn. They are wonderful and reasonable. Very trust worthy.

Good Morning J., My husband is a mechanic at Molle Toyota. If you would like to talk with him, I will give you our number. He never rips anyone off. And if you don't want to pay the dealership then maybe you can bring it out place...It's all up to my husband, Shawn. Have a good day!

Hi J.,
I just sent in a request looking for what you are!

I've taken my pick up truck to Smith Specialty near 129th and Mur-Len, and they seemed honest without pressure.

(I sent my request out in case there is a shop with a majority of happy customers...I hope we both find out).

Good luck,
Angie
