I had my first child in a birthing center with a certified nurse midwife in Tennessee and used the Bradley method. My insurance wouldn't cover a midwife in Texas for my second child. All the midwives I talked to here referred me to Dr. Love at St. David's in Austin (he is one of a handful of Drs. who will go with the Bradley Method). I had never been to male ob/gyn before and was nervous, but from the first second I met him I was at ease and he is one of the best doctors I have ever been to. Everyone I've ever met who used Dr. Love has had wonderful things to say. He did not actually deliver my child (I was 12 days past my due date) as he was out of town for ONE weekend out of my whole 36-42 week range. But everything up to that was wonderful and his partners who covered handled me just great (though I really only saw them for seconds before the baby was born as I went from 7-10cm VERY quickly).
Two things to think about though have more to do with St. David's -1st it is a drive from Round Rock but that wasn't really a problem for us. The doctor was worth it. At St. David's they hook you up to a fetal monitor every 15-30 minutes (depending on your stage of labor)for 15 minutes (you can be in a bed or chair but you have to stay put). It was my second baby so I had no problem with natural childbirth using Bradley and being hooked up, but it does hinder the "free to walk" process. For the rest of the time you can move around as you want.
Oh and I also looked at Dr. Sebesteyn because a friend had good luck with her. At the time she was affiliated with a group whose partners were anti-bradley and TOO traditional (I was worried about the on-call cover). Glad to see she has changed practices.
