I have been with Dr. Ivonne Smith with OGA in the medical center for 10 years. She has delivered 2 of my babies and will be delivering my third. She's great and has kiddos of her own. Great bedside manner and great doctor. ###-###-####

Dr. Barbara Held in the Med Center or Dr. Waverly Peakes in same group. They are wonderful. I work at Methodist and nearly everyone I work with go to that practice as well as their family members.

Dr. Laurie Swaim of Houston Women's Care Associates in the One Fannin Building next to the Woman's Hospital of Texas is great (www.hwca.com, ###-###-####). If, for some reason, Dr. Swaim is not accepting new patients, the practice is full of competent doctors (all women, if that's important to you... I would never take my car to a mechanic who didn't own one, so I like to see women for my OB-GYN needs!). Dr. Swaim provided my prenatal care (and provides my routine GYN care) but ultimately did not deliver my daughter as she was born on a Saturday and Dr. Swaim was not on-call that weekend. Dr. Samora-Mata delivered my baby and was absolutely wonderful; I have also seen Drs. Duncan and Tran on an emergency basis and liked them both, especially Dr. Duncan. Check out their website: there is lots of good information about the practice and personal profiles of the docs. Good luck!

Women Health Care Associates, Dr. Carl Lee, II!!! If I could be the poster child for Dr. Lee I would! He is knowledgable, caring, thorough & all around great doctor. He's located in Park Plaza professional building-###-###-####. I'm currently pregnant with my 2nd child, & the difference in Dr. Lee & my 1st OB/GYN is profound! If I could have my son all over again I would just so Dr. Lee could provide me with the best care Houston has to offer. Hope this helps.

The OG-GYNs at the Baylor Clinic (located right on Main Street in the Medical Center) are wonderful, especially Dr. Timmins, Dr. Young and Dr. Raine. They seem to be on most insurance plans.

Dr. Damla Dryden with the Women's Specialists of Houston. They are in the St. Luke's Medical Tower on the 18th floor. It is a whole group of doctors, but Dr. Dryden is the best.

I was seeing the group of midwives affiliated with the practice when I was pregnant with my daughter. I loved the midwives, but had a long difficult delivery due to my daughter's position. They called in Dr. Dryden and she was very comforting, but forceful and knowledgeable. She laid it out - we either had to get this child out with forceps or I would be hauled in for an emergency C-section. She was successful with the forceps - with no ill effects to my daughter. I suffered a bad tear, but her aftercare was wonderful and there have been no long term impacts.

I am now seeing her for my second pregnancy and I would not go anywhere else. I know that she can get me through any difficulties, but I also know that she will honor my wishes for a birth that is as natural as possible. She is very skilled, but also very open and willing to listen to her patient's needs. She is also very good with children, and small children are welcome at appointments with her, for those who don't have childcare access. There are toys and books in most of the exam rooms for the little ones.

I almost hate to give you her name b/c she is already so busy but here goes:
Dr. Amy Young in the medical center. She is in with a group and they are all wonderful. If you can't see her, see another doc in that office.

What sets her and her colleagues apart is that she is a professor of medicine. She trains the Baylor ob-gyn residents, she has won academic awards and I believe she has been involved in published clinical trials. To top it off, she's just about the coolest woman you'll ever meet. It's like going to visit my girlfriend.

I used to work with a woman who has very complicated female issues. I found out she also goes to Amy Young. When I asked her how she decided upon her, she said she had done a lot of research looking for a doctor and decided upon her due to her clinical research involving alternatives or options to avoid hysterectomies (obviously all other docs wanted to perform one and she didn't want to have one).

I didn't have any complicated issues but Dr. Young and her group are all academics. When you have docs training the residents, they are very up to speed on medicine and cutting edge technology. And they have a doctor in the office who strictly deals with high risk pregnancies if needed.

Sorry I can't remember the names of her associates right now.

I highly recommend Daniel Mundy. He's with OB/GYN of Houston, located in the Hermann Professional Building right in the medical center ###-###-####). He became my doctor late in my 8th month of pregnancy with my 2nd child (almost 7 years ago), when my prior ob-gyn changed practices and wasn't an approved provider for my insurance.

He has a very gentle bedside manner. I brought a birth plan to my first appointment with him, which he took time to look over. The day I delivered, he happened to be on the maternity floor, recognized my name on the board (I'd only had a couple of appointments with him), and came in to assist the resident on call with the delivery. He remembered the preferences I stated in the birth plan and did his best to honor them.

He's also one of the few ob-gyn's I've had who actually meets with you in his office first, talks about how you're doing, etc., THEN sees you in the exam room. As I've transitioned out of OB needs into strictly GYN-related visits, he's continued to exhibit that same great bedside manner.

Hi K.,

Dr Henry Su at the Hermann professional building in the med ctr. He is awesome! He delivered both my babies who are now 9 and 11. He is still my OB dr with my current pregnancy and he has been truly helpful! I had complications with my first delivery and he was so patient and helped me not have to go through with an emergency C-section. Currently, I have gone through 2 miscarriages and with his support and expertise I am now pregnant and although we are "at risk", he is very cautious and I feel like he takes good care of his patients. I have referred many to him and everyone has always been very happy with him. The best thing about him vs a woman MD is that he does not assume how I am feeling. Most women MD's sometimes assume our aches and twinges are what they are feeling and I feel that gets in the way of their expert opinion.

Good luck!

i also used dr. Laurie Swaim. she was great with my first pregnancy. very understanding, supportive, and straight forward. she will sit down with you and explain everything. I was induced due to my daughter being small, and I was very upset and nervous about the procedure, but Dr. Swaim was great in helping me to feel comfortable. She stopped by several times during the day at the hospital to check on me. The other doctors in her practice are great too--they rotate labor duty, so if you are going to have another baby, she may/may not be there to deliver it. general care also was great.

I go to Barbara Schroeder at OGA at 7900 Fannin. She delivered my 7 month old son and I was very pleased with her. I had to have a planned c-section because of previous surgeries for fibroids. Unfortunately, I had two large fibroids grow in my uterus during the pregnancy and my son was "stuck" behind them. Dr. Schroeder worked hard to get him out quickly and safely. While I was in recovery I started bleeding heavily and Dr. Schroeder had to take me back to the OR to do a procedure to try to stop the bleeding and to give me two transfusions. Luckily the bleeding stopped and she did not have to perform a hysterectomy!

Obviously my delivery was more medically complicated than most and involved a lot of intervention, but Dr. Schroeder was awesome throughout. I appreciate her skills, but also her compassion.

Oh yeah, I had a lot of problems with naseua during my pregnancy and Dr. Schroeder was very helpful and understanding because she had terrible nasuea during both of her own pregnancies.
