Need Recommendation for Carpet/carpet Installation

We're (FINALLY!)getting new carpet. Our last experience with carpet and its installation was a nightmare. All we had was one room. Should be pretty simple, right? Well, the carpet installer basically spent 3 days smoking pot, watching cable and using our landline to make long distance calls. And the finished product looked like it had been installed by a guy who was stoned out of his gourd. So we know who NOT to use.

I've asked around but can't seem to get any good recommendations. We've only got one room to carpet and I can get decent carpet in our price range at half-a-dozen places. My big concern is getting somebody who will install in a timely fashion, who will leave their weed at home and will do a good job with the actual installation.

Thanks, ladies!!!

What can I do next?

First, look at www.BBB.org (Better Business Bureau) for carpet sales and installation. Look for ACCREDITED MEMBERS of the BBB, which means, they have been asked by the BBB to be a member and pay a yearly fee to have that membership. You can see each business, member or not, to see if they have any complaints, the nature of the complaint and if it was resolved or not.

I would REPORT your past experience to the BBB.

Second, my recommendation, found on the BBB is
Stephens Floor Covering Co.
2606 Rock Hill Industrial Ct

The store is in Rock Hill MO on Manchester Rd. Nice showroom, didn't try to sell us things we didn't want, low pressure. Their installers are their employees, NOT contract employees, therefore, the company is responsible for their installers. The carpet arrived when stated, the installers arrived when stated and did the entire job (half a house (entryway, hallway, three bedrooms, a flight of stairs) in ONE DAY....eight-nine hours. We are very happy w/the service and installation. The salesperson even came by that morning to check on the status of the arrival of carpet and installer, and knew that installer by name.

Note that they will move furniture and rip out the old, however, you WILL pay for this service, and now you have added a day or two to the job. My BF and I did the moving and rip-out of the old the few days before and trashed the old ourselves, saving a LOT of money.

Good luck!!

I'm not sure where you are located, but there is a place in Belleville, IL (about 20 minutes from South County) called Custom Carpet. They're a smaller, family owned place that has been around for a while. Tey're prices are pretty good and the service is great. They did the entire flooring for my house when we built it. After we moved in, my cats ruined one room by peeing in it. We tried to get the smell out but couldn't. It would have been like $450 to re-carpet it but instead, they said to try to pull the carpet back, put down new pad and see if that worked - since we'd need new pad anyway. It did and saved me a ton of money. I really appreciated that they worked with me to find an economical solution rather than just trying to make more money off me. The guys were in and out in a couple of hours and were awesome. Their number is ###-###-####.

Good Luck!

I needed a place that did 12 months free financing. Found it at Beckys at Baptist Church Rd and Tesson. The installers were great.

I would check on Angie's List. I've heard great things. If you think this is the only repair you'll need this year it might be worth having someone who is already a member get a name for you.
