Need Reasonable, Clean Hotel near Disneyland for Our Family

We stayed at the Howard Johnson in March and loved it! It had a mini fridge (money saver), microwave, tv, balcony and all of the other good stuff. Most places charge for internet, it was free there and I believe their phones were free for local access too. Their prices were great considering other places and it was really only a 10 minute walk from the gate. It was close to Denny's, Cold Stone Creamery and the other hotels that are a bit closer but not as nice. I also recommend eating at Mimi's Cafe across from the Howard Johnson. Their food was excellent, especially for breakfast, and their prices saved me money over Disneyland prices. I think mimi's has a website as well. Oh, and the hotel had it's own little water park that kids love! We went for dd's 5th Birthday. Wow, I wrote a book! LOL Any other questions, feel free to ask....

My mum took us down there last year (my son, myself, & my husband). We stayed in the disneyland hotel. For 5 nights, plus a 3 day park hopper pass the total was 1200.

I just looked online, and the price for 30 days from now is the almost the same (1245), for 2 adults, one under 2 and a 4 year old....BUT then I looked up *just the hotel* and it was actually DOUBLE. They're also having a 5 nights for the price of 3 promotion, etc. Hah. Update. Poking around changing dates/passes etc reeeeaally alters the price. I would highly recommend CALLING to figure out the best days/rates/packages after you poke around to see what special offers would best suit you.

Anyhow...it's a fantastic hotel...The definition of "close" :) But not super posh like the Disneyland Grand. (Have never been to the Disneyland Paradise Pier). The monorail is a two minute stumble over the stroller, the pool is a fantastic place to cool off during the day (we'd go to the park, come back for lunch and swimming...go back to the park for a few hours, come back in the afternoon to swim again or watch a movie and have a snack...go back to the park...come back for dinner and swimming).

Also, if you poke about on the website, they have something called "Good Neighbor" hotels. Anaheim is actually pretty scuzzy (we lived in Huntington Beach for several years, and used to go to d-land about once a month, and let me tell you...anaheim is a place to avoid unless you're going to the park). So while it's probably a safe bet to use one of the "good neighbor hotels", I would personally look at the "moderate" ones before the "economy" ones.

Check out the Embassy Suites in that area. They are a great deal, for the LARGE room and you get an amazing breakfast. They are not across the street from the park, but you can take the shuttle which is really easy to us.

We loved the newly redone Red Lion Inn. We stayed there in May and they had really great rates since they just reopened. It was a bit far from Disneyland for our three year old to walk after all day at Disneyland (about 1 block further than the Candy Cane Inn and 1 block closer to DL than the Hilton and Clarion). We got a pass for the ART bus system which stops right in front of the hotel and takes you right to Disneyland. It worked out great for us since my parents were with us for a bit and my mom can't walk all day anymore, it saved us walking when we didn't want to.

The other things to check into is whether the hotel offers a shuttle service to Disneyland, some do and some don't. Red Lion Inn does not, hence we bought the bus passes.

We usually stay at the resorts there on the property. The closer you are to the parks, the more expensive the hotel is going to be. The first year we stayed at the Best Western. They advertise a 3 minute walk to the gates. This was true, they are right across the street, but they are very bare bones. there is a small pool and no resturant. Basically the rooms reminded me of a motel 6 or super 8, the price you pay is to be close to the entrance and not for a nice room with amenities. I know there are lots of nice hotels along the main road but you may be giving up the convenince of being close. The Disneyland Resort and Paridise Pier are both not to bad price wise for being in the park. You can usually get your park passes included into your rate. Be sure to check out costco travel and AAA as well as the disney travel for deals. You never know, it might be in your budget to stay there.

We stayed at Buena Park Embassy Suites. (there is a newer Embassy Suites even closer to Disneyland called Anaheim South as well) At Buena Park, we had a nice large suite with a separate bedroom attached to the living room through a short hallway where the bathroom was located. The living room had a sofabed for our two kids, and if you wanted, there was lots of extra space available in the bedroom for a couple pack'n plays or a roll-a-way. There was also a kitchenette. The pool was nice & kid friendly. The free breakfast was great. Like a serve yourself restaurant really. (we had choice of pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, several types of potatoes, french toast, cereal, fruit bar, and probably a lot more choices I can't recall!) & could get a few pieces of fruit to take with you later to the park for healthy snack. The free shuttle was really convenient too. (I think it was a 10 min ride to the park & they drop you off inside the park, just outside the ticket booth.) Knotts Berry Farm is across the freeway from this hotel as well. Avg nightly rate was less than $100 per night. We knew we'd be at Disneyland or out of the hotel most of the day so we didn't want to spend a lot on accommodations. We enjoyed coming back to the hotel pool each night. I'd stay there again.

Check out Peacock Suites. The thing I liked about the rooms, is that the bed is seperate from a little sitting area. It has a sliding door to seperate the two areas. We liked this so we could put the kids to bed and stay up later. They have a shuttle that takes you to the park, that comes about every 20 minutes. I have heard it is now part of a timeshare. However, you do not have to be part of the timeshare to stay there. Be clear that you are not interested in learning about the timeshare when you check in, and they will not bother you about it. Also, check out tripadvisor.com. We have found several great hotels by looking at reviews on the sight.

So the last time we went to Disneyland was in 1993 and at that time we stayed at Motel 6 and walked to the park. About a block and a half away. It was pretty cheap prices so, you may want to check that out.

I highly recommend the Candy Cane Inn. It's about a 10 minute walk tot he gate (or they have a great shuttle) and it's on the same side of the block so you don't have to cross a busy street (only a parking lot entrance. The rooms and service were amazing and even though I haven't checked prices there lately, they were pretty reasonable when we went last year. We have also enjoyed our stays at the Howard Johnson.

We went last October, and stayed at the Comfort Inn Maingate. http://www.comfortinnmaingate.com/ It wasn't anything fancy, but was very clean and well kept. They have a decent breakfast, too. We also liked that they had 2 room "suites" available. That way, our daughter had her own room, which she loved! The Comfort Inn is technically within walking distance, but there's a shuttle to the Disney parks that stops one block away, and it's definately worth the money, especially with the kids in tow. Howard Johnson - Anaheim is great! Super pool, close proximity and large rooms.

One of my students' families is going there on Sunday, and they're staying at Homewood Suites. I don't know the cost, but she said the room rate includes a hot breakfast and a light dinner. Good luck!

If you don't want to pay for the access from a park hotel, try to stay right across the street on Harbor Blvd. so that short breaks are easier to take in your hotel room. We like The Desert Inn. It is directly across from the main gate and has many different room configurations.

Also, a friend of ours stayed at the Ho Jo up the street (as recommended by another Mamasource mama) and she loved it! She said they stayed in the waterpark for at least one day and enjoyed the room upgrade too. I prefer to be closer, but there is a shuttle.

The Carousel is very nice. That's where my in-law family stays when they go every year. It's right across the street from the Main Gate. Good luck and have fun!
