Long story short... my 2 year old needs to have something removed from her head and I could use some pedatric plastic surgeon recommendations. The one our pedi recommended no longer accepts our insurance, Blue Cross. Any recommendations -- good or bad -- would be most appreciated. I am very nervous about all of it. Thanks!

What can I do next?

My 4 year old son had to have stitches to connect the bottom part of his nose back to his face after playing Superman in our living room. Dr. Ramsey Choucair at Medical City Dallas stitched him back up and the result is great. It's only been 3 months and the area is hardly noticeable. I would let him work on either of my boys again in a heartbeat. He has two offices - one near Northpark Mall and one in Plano.

K., I have a client/friend who is a world-reknowned plastic surgeon, and one area that doctors all over the world look to him for advice is in the area of pediatric facial surgery. His name is Dr. G. Hunt Neurohr, and the number is ###-###-####. Whether he accepts Blue Cross/Blue Shield I have no idea; you would have to ask the receptionist. He is a wonderfully kind and caring doctor, as well as the father of a set of twins - he has seven children altogether. If he does not accept BC/BS, you may want to call the isurance company and get them to provide a list of doctors that do accept that insurance. Good luck to you, what a terrible burden! We moms somehow find the strength to do what we have to do, though, and God will make sure you can do it.

K.,

I don't have a pedi plastic; but, the one I'm recommending worked on my grown son and I was so pleased. My oldest was two years old the first time he had to have a "suspicious" mole removed and I was so freaked out!! This was my first child and our first "surgery". It went just fine! So, just a potential bit of reassurance there, I hope. Now, fast-forward almost 20 years. Same son, playing golf, took a shanked ball to the face! Yep, a golf ball to the FACE!!! The wound looked like a blossoming peace sign. Dr. Bruce Byrne came and did a simply beautiful job. I was not going to let just anybody touch my "baby"'s face and DEMANDED a plastic to see him. Dr. Byrne's work was just wonderful. Now, when you click on the following link it really caters to "womanly upgrades"; but, I assure you, if I had a child needing a plastic surgeon (based on my personal experience), I'd have Dr. Byrne do it in a heartbeat!

Good Luck,

Hi K. -
My son, also a twin (who was 2 at the time) had several scar revisions on his chest and laser treatment for a very large birthmark on his forehead. We took him to Dr. Jay Burns at Childrens - and I LOVE him. His office staff was so comforting to us, even though this was not the first surgery we had to go through. He did a great job as well - and I would recommend him to anyone. Not sure about the insurance though.

My son is 5 months old (a twin also) and is having his 3rd (hopefully final) surgery on Wednesday to remove a large hemangioma from his knee. I was so scared but the plastic surgeon's confidence and reassurance was key. My son has now had sonograms, MRI's, 2 laser treatments (both under general anethesia), and now the BIG surgery to remove it. I was very nervous but my child needs the regular use of his knee and i've been praying hard. Good luck with your son and I'm sure everything will be fine.

Dr. Russell Sparenburg in Plano (Near Medical Center Plano) is very highly recommended. I do not know if he works with children.

I am going to him to have a lympoma removed in a couple of months. He also worked with my husband years ago after a car accident. Can't say enough good about him!!!

K.,

Both my girls required head surgery at Children's. One was done my a neurosurgeon, which I don't think you need. The other was done by Dr. P. Craig Hobar through the Cranial Facial Clinic at Children's. He was actually part of the team that separated the Egyptian Twins. He has a great practice and wonderful bedside manner. I don't know, however, if he accepts Blue Cross or not. Their number is ###-###-####. My daughter had a birth defect called Craniosynastosis, which he corrected. I thought he did an outstanding job. There is also another group of cranial facial surgeons that were also part of the Egyptian Twins team located at Medical City. One of them is Kenneth Salyer I believe.
