I'm 7.5 months pregnant and moving to Bloomfield from Maryland. I am hoping to find a midwife (or OB, but prefer midwife) that delivers at a hospital nearby (Mountainside or St. Barnabas?), as well as a pediatrician that you LOVE. Thanks!!

Hi,

I don't know about a midwife, but I can recommend a peditrician. I go to Tenafly Peditricians. They have several offices, but the closest to Bloomfield would be Clifton. I just had my first child 8 months ago and amd VERY pleased with all the Dr's in this practice.

Good luck!

Unfortunately, I am not able to recommend a midwife, but if you defintiely move to Bloomfield, deliver at St. Barnabas and not Mountainside Hospital. I highly recommend St. Barnabas Hospital and gave birth to my 8 month old daughter there and actually was better than the hospital that I gave birth to my first daughter in Philadelphia (University of Pennsylvania). Most of the nurses at St. Barnabas (I had one specifically who was a gem) were nice and helpful!

Hi D.,

I live in a town adjacent to Bloomfield and can tell you that St. Barnabas and Morristown Memorial are the two best places for high-risk deliveries. I personally will probably deliver at one of those hospitals. However, I have 3 friends who all recently delivered (one is s still pregnant, but planning to deliver) at Mountainside and had a good experience. It's a community hospital, so it's best for low-risk deliveries. My friends wanted to deliver close by so they could labor at home for as long as possible and they liked that it was a smaller and less busy unit (more personal attention, they felt). I can't really give you a recommendation either way ... it really depends on your personality and what kind of experience you're looking for.

As far as doctors/midwives go ... one of my friends goes to Dr. Winsome Parchment because she's apparently a very natural-friendly OB (she delivers at Mountainside). I've heard she's also one of the most VBAC-friendly OBs (but it doesn't sound like you're in that camp) I've also heard good things about Avalon midwives in West Caldwell (about 10-15 mins away) -- I know they deliver at Morristown, but don't know where else they have privileges.

I hope that helps!

Hi D.,
I gave birth at St Barnabus and had a wonderful experience. I did not use a midwife but I'm sure if you called the hospital they could give you some recommendations as I think they have a birthing center there.
As for pediatricians, I live in Westfield and go to Westfield Pediatrics (Dr Flanzman...she's amazing!) but I'm not sure how har that is from Bloomfield.
Good luck...with everything!!!

Hi D.,

I used Avalon Midwives and loved them. I can't remember their number any more but they have a Web site. They are in Caldwell (West Caldwell?) I delivered at Mountainside but I'm not sure they are affiliated any more. My pediatrician is Maria Yerovi in Bloomfield. I've never had any complaints.

Good luck! B. (in Montclair)

I am a Nurse and a Mom. I've had a waterbirth, and unfortunately, a c-section. I believe in the path of least interventions within the safety environment of a hospital. As for facilities in your area......I don't believe St. Barnabas has any Midwives, I am not sure about Mountainside. I used Lonnie Morris. She is an excellent clinician. Ask any nurse in this area, and that's who we use. She is in Frot Lee, about 20-30 minutes form Bloomfield. Here's her site. Check her out. You'll LOVE her. http://www.childbirthcenter.net/

Lonnie delivers her patients at Palisades Medical Center, an affiliate of New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System, in North Bergen (also about 20 minutes from Bloomfield). http://palisadesmedical.org/

Feel free to contact me with questions about Lonnie or the area. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Hi D.. Welcome to Bloomfield! I delivered at Mountainside and it was a great experience as I was practically the only woman giving birth at the time (opposed to St. Barnabas which is always packed) - so all the attention was devoted to me and my babe.
I went to OB's and they were ok...but what I really want to recommend is our pediatrician. We were originally with this one woman and after a few months, I just felt like she didn't know what was going on and I was getting very fed up with her and her office. The owner of the daycare we use (that we also LOVE - let me know if you need a reco for that too) recommended our current peds office. It's Notchview Pediatrics located in Clifton (about a 15 mins drive from our house in Bloomfield) - and all of the peds there are great (minus a one Dr. Lazieh - we don't like her).
Good luck with everything!
:-)

Hi D.,

I have two friends that used Avalon Midwives. They were very pleased with their care.

As for pediatrician, we use Dr. Yerovi in Bloomfield and we are so far very pleased with her. She is very laid back, has a more natural approach and seems very knowledgeable. She herself has 5 kids so she is easy to relate to your problems. One complaint that I have with that office is the well checkups appointments that you have to make couple months in advance . Other than that the wait time is close to none, and in case of emergency they give you appt the same day.

Good luck and welcome to the area.
