Does anyone know of a good MDO/Preschool that does not require up-to-date immunizations? My son just turned one and has not had any immunizations yet; I will start them in the next 6 months. We live in Uptown so I am open to schools in the Park Cities, Preston Hollow, Lakewood, Lake Highlands, etc. areas. Thank you!!

What can I do next?

You can file an affadavit w/ the state and they have to take it in leu of vaccinations. You can go on the state website to request it and then take it to get notorized. It's a really simple process, even accepted by public schools. Hope this helps

I hope this doesn't come across as judgemental, but if I were one of the other parents I would be terribly upset if a child with immunizations was allowed in the class to possibly expose my child to preventable childhood diseases. I have a friend who had polio as a child because her parents didn't get her immunizations and she has constant pain and great trouble walking. Why would you risk infecting a child if it is completely preventable? Their is NO proof vaccines cause autism according to the Academy of Pediatric Medicine if that is your reason - it is just a theory perpetuated mainly by celebrities!

Most centers will probably accept the exemptions. My kids attend White Rock North School (6 weeks to 6th grade) in Lake Highlands and it accepted my exemption, no questions asked.

My daughter's are not immunized due the fact that I have very reserved opinions about them and my husband is dead set against them. I work full-time as a 2 year old teacher for a day care in RedOak and I have both of my daughter's in the program as well. When it came down to registering them there was a space to sign saying you were aware your children were not immunized and you would agree to take them to their family doctor for regular checkups. The daycare should give you a form for the doctor to sign at each visit. I don't know if all daycares are doing this kind of thing now or just some. You may want to check into this. It appears from reading your post that you are just behind on shots and have every intention of catching up. I believe you can explain this to the daycare and they may give you some sort of time frame to catch up by. I don't think they will not take your child just because they are behind on their shots. Call around and explain your situation and see what happens.

Keep in mind that you will always receive some sort of criticism about this subject. I believe everyone has a right to their own opinions and they are more than likely saying some of the thing's they say because they care about their kid's and other's. I care about my daughter's to no end and I would feel terrible if something bad every happened to them. But at the same time I would feel terrible if I caused this to happen by giving them all these shots. Way too many of them to get in my opinion. But again it is only my opinion.

Most preschool will accept the state exemptions that the public school accepts. I stopped immunizing my kids, daughter at 3 and son at 18 months when I told me ped he was autistic. (BTW--that is how it typically goes, the parent recognizes it before the doc). Private schools may not have to abide by state regulations that public schools do so just ask them before you enroll.

Why has your child not been immunized? That would be irresponsible on the part of the school to allow a child to attend who has not been immunized. You should take care of that immediately!

I do not know of any, but I know that most are required by the state to have the immunizations up to date for licensing requirements. As far as exemptions go, there are only a few, and you have to show proof of some kind usually.
