Need Legal References in Denver Metro Area

I am seeking legal references in the Denver Metro area to update our child custody agreement. My ex and I are on friendly terms and would like to be able to move the venue to Arapahoe County where my children and I live from Montrose County where we were living at the time of separation. My ex lives out of state and travels here to see our children whenever he can. I have inquired to a well known legal firm but they want a retainer that is above what we had hoped to spend, at $5000.00 to $7600.00. We are in complete agreement on what we want to include in the custody papers and are willing to share the costs. We will even bring what we want in writing to a lawyer and will make an appointment when we can both be in attendance. All responses will be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

Maybe try Willoughby & Eckelberry:

or Metro Volunteers may be able to identify some low-cost family law attorneys. I wouldn't use pre-paid legal services, though.

If nothing with your original decree has changed then I don't think you need to do anything. Or do you not have it documented? Have you tried that legal form company, look on Dave Ramsey's web sight, they have a company they reccomend. Since you are in agreement( which by the way, is SOOOO AWESOME, good for you two!) you can probably do this yourself thrugh Arapahoe county. Make sure you get your child support order documented. just in case. Those lawyers will take your money honey, be carefull! Keep up the good work, you can do this on your own, good luck!

If you are both in agreement about everything then why do you need a lawyer? I just did all of my divorce and parenting plan and child support stuff and restraining order all on my own. If you agree about everything then it is not hard to just print up the papers and do everything on your own. I was surprised at how easy it is to do everything on your own. It doesn't make sense to pay so much money when you are in agreement about everything!

I know an attorney who is now practicing as a mediator working in family law. Since she is interested in helping parties get along, and working out differences, I would call her and see if she can help with this one document you need. Her name is Eileen Kottenstette and she's at 303 -###-###-####. The website is www.bensoncase.com. Good luck in keeping things moving peacefully along! S. W. LCSW www.sarahwellstherapy.com

Hi I.,

Please email me and I'll give you some information on Pre-Paid Legal Services. We use a great law firm in the Denver Tech Center, but have referral attorneys as well. You can ask an unlimited number of legal questions every month, plus you would get your will, living will and durable power of attorney updated (or done in the first place), plus so many other benefits I can't even list them here.

If after talking with an attorney, you find you need to retain one, you would get a 25% discount off their hourly rates. Best of all, you have access to attorneys nationwide which would be important as your ex is out of state.

With the Legal Shield, you would also have 24 hour access to an attorney in emergency situations - arrested (criminal ID theft is the second most common type), held for questioning, in a serious auto accident, child custody (kids are not returned per agreement), or Children Services issues (come out to investigate and then want to remove your kids).

Watch www.greatlegalhelp.com to understand the power of the membership. I've been a member for over 6 years and I've easily saved over $10,000 by finding out what my rights are and practicing preventative law. You can call on all questions, big and small without worrying about getting another bill. Best of all, the standard family plan with legal shield runs $17 per month.

I'll also teach you how to use it to get the most bang for your buck.

Take care and email me with any questions or for more info,
S.

There are some organizations that offer from Legal Night. At this they can give you advice on what you two can possilbly due. Unfortunatly I do not know of one in Arapahoe County. The one I do know about is located at Mi Casa Resource Center in Metro Denver. The address is 360 Acoma Street, Denver, CO 80223. Phone number ###-###-####. The Legal Night is held every 3rd Tuesday of the month from 5:30-7. So you still have time to go this month if you would like. Hope this helps.
