Has anyone used Kid to Kid to sell your clothes and/or toys? How was your experience? Did the money they paid you seem fair and reasonable? Is it more of a hassle than to just donate to Goodwill? Any good and bad experiences shared here will be greatly appreciated.
Some kid to kids shops are better than others. I had a very expensive pair of shoes and they offered me .75. I could have done better at a yard sale. Some are REAL picky and others I did much better at. I decided unless I wanted to buy some items and just use the store credit...they weren't worth my time.
I took in a laundry basket full of QUALITY gently used toys which included a V-tech computer, etc and I was offer less than $25 for the whole basket. I walked out.
Once Upon a Child was not much better. We took our $500+ crib there and hubby let them have it at $80 because he did not want to bring it back home. I would have left it in the car and advertised elsewhere.
My daughter is now 14. I took a large bag to Plato's CLoset just last week and they turned me down because the sizes were not 00 and up. My sizes were 10-12 with Abercrombie, etc high quality and gently used clothing.
Now I am not sure what I am going to do with this bag of clothing. Goodwill is looking better everyday. I am usually an advocate of getting the tax benefit and I will probably go that route. I can't see selling a pair of very gently used $50 jeans and skirts for $2.
My personal opinion........lose the headache and donate.
They're extremely picky, and don't offer much. I've had more luck selling clothes on craigslist. I separate them by size and sell them as lots. I usually only charge about a dollar per piece, but some people charge more.
If you have the time I would recommend Craigslist, because in my opinion I don't feel like I get enough from the resale stores. I have used Once upon a Child and I got $1.35 for a pair jeans that were worn once by my daughter. Since then I have just sold what I can on Craigslist and then I donate the rest.

I will say that I have BOUGHT clothes and toys from these places and got some really great stuff for the price.
BUT, I have to second the others' posts about Craigslist to sell your stuff. Yes, you have to keep the stuff in your house and deal with trying to schedule transactions with people but it's worth it for your nicer things-you would get more $$ this way than you could hope for at a garage sale or through a consignment store. I personally am talking toys and baby accessories...

You can basically do both. I take a lot of my used things there and I do get a little cash, but not much. I don't think anyone would really consider it "fair and reasonable" if you are thinking about what the items are worth, but of course they have to make money themselves. They once told me that they give you about 30% of what they think they can sell things for. What they won't buy from you though, they will donate so you may as well go ahead and take it in and that way you may get some cash and things will still be put to good use. It is too much of a hassle if you plan on keeping whatever they won't take. I usually take my money in the form of a credit (you get 20% more).
Stacy, I just got done selling some things to Kid to Kid for the second time. The one thing that does bother me is that I took my stuff there on Wed. and they said they'd call me back in a couple days. Well I still haven't heard back from them. But they're pretty picky. And one time I bought a maternity shirt there and then a few months later I went to sell it back to them and they wouldn't take it. It had no stains and looked exactly like when I bought it. I told them that and they said "We've changed our standards for what we buy recently and we don't want this back". So that irritated me cause the whole thing about resale that I like is that you can buy it from them and sell it back when you're done, but that's not always the case.
Make sure that everything you take has been washed and cleaned up as best you can, cause they won't take anything with stains or spots on it.

I haven't tried them but have heard from others that they don't give much for your stuff. I have been using a consignment sale every spring and fall. If you have the time and are willing to take the time to make your stuff look good (clean, ironed, etc.) you can make good money. I use Divine Consign. They have a sale in Plano coming soon. I just registered the other day so you still have time.
