Need Ideas for Mothers Day Brunch

Hello Moms!
My children are 10 and 7 and this is the first year that I actually feel comfortable taking them out to a restaurant. (I know that sounds sad but my oldest has issues, however she's getting so much better and we are ready.)
My special days in the past have consisted of my husband taking the children some place fun while I stay in our quiet house, take long, hot baths, drink mimosa's and watch chick-flicks. That really was wonderful. But now we are ready to be in public without tantrums and food being thrown.
So, are there any suggestions for a delightful Mother's Day brunch?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for your suggestions!
I've decided to have a cozy brunch at home and then my mom, sister and I will be going out for a special lunch next weekend.
Just as sweet and not as stressful.
Thanks again!

Hi there,
We have just opened a new organic market and cafe on Bainbridge and we are celebrating Mother's Day with a beautiful organic Buffet Brunch. We still have some reservations available.
Our Buffet will be filled with baked goods (some gluten free),fruits, egg dishes, amazing bacon, red flannel hash, salads, MIMOSAS,desserts......too much to list.
And...little gifts for the mom's too.
Best of all, we are all about kids. In fact mine are usually who is at the register after school!
Give us a call and make a reservation. We'd love to meet you and your kids.
Thanks!
Take care,
L.

The Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza at I-5 and 217 has a really nice brunch and not too expensive. We had a group of 25, over half were under 10, for Easter brunch and everyone enjoyed it.

Hi A.,
We had a delightful, variety-full brunch for Father's Day at Salty's. There is one in Portland and they have a great brunch; although a little spendy (I think between $30-40/person), but very worth it!
Otherwise, your next best bet will be any of the major hotels.
Happy Mother's Day!

Hi A.,
I don't want to be a naysayer, but we learned a long time ago (I've been a mom for 17 years) that going out to brunch on Mother's Day is not worthwhile. It's super crowded, service will be slow, the atmosphere is rushed and loud, food is usually overpriced. Many times they don't even offer their normal menu, it's either a buffet or a few choices from a special menu. We choose to go out on another day within a week or so of the actual day, and have a much better time. I think you should stick with your prior experience of having some alone time on that day, and eat out some other time. I think you might be asking for trouble by putting your oldest into such a situation. Another option would be to go out to dessert later in the evening, after the crowds have died down.
Good luck--and Happy Mother's Day!

I'd suggest going out for brunch the day before or the day after Mother's Day because any and all restaurants will be an absolute mad house otherwise. If your oldest has some issues, I'd be concerned that Mother's Day mayhem might be too much for her so I think it might be a good idea to set her up for success. (And the actual day of "Mother's Day" is essentially an arbitrarily designated day - it's not as though it is a birthday or an anniversary!)

Hi A.,
I am a mom of 6 boys so I completely understand about the restaurant thing. My husband did b-b-q's at home for the first several years. Since my boys have been older, my youngest 2 (twins) are 13; we now go to restaurants on Mom's Day. I pick (thankfully), and I like to choose a place where the boys are not pressured to be too quiet or still. We have gone to places like Old Chicago where the boys can get pizza or sandwiches and I have choices too. We have a nice, relaxing time. Have a nice Mother's Day.

I "ditto" both the trip to Seattle for the Salty's brunch (it will blow your mind) and waiting for another weekend to make it truly enjoyable for you. I haven't done the zoo brunch but that sounds like a really fun day.

The zoo has a decent brunch, and it's very kid friendly. We do the, "If you do a good job, we'll get to go see the animals after breakfast." You have to call and schedule your brunch time, which is helpful because then you don't have to wait when you get there (fewer tantrums from waiting). Or you can step outside easily if bodies are restless.

Personally, as this is a first venture, I would do your brunch on Saturday instead of Sunday. Saturday will be less crowded and less stressful for you and your daughter.
Without a budget, it is difficult to recommend a specific place, although downtown Kirkland had some nice places. Good luck!

The restaurant at multnomah falls has a really nice brunch and scenery! We've gone there the last 2 yrs and you can go in the morning or they have a nice buffet in the afternoon. I would just call for details ahead of time. They are busy but not so crowded that it's miserable. When you call they can tell you when the best time is to come and I think you can make reservations. The CheeseCake Factory is yummy..I dont know if they do brunch but it would be a good lunch place. It also has a big menu to cater to all different tastes.

It sounds odd - but the Sheraton over by the airport has one of the best brunches I've been to.

I don't know about portland but in seattle there's a restaurant on the water (salty's) that has the most fantastic brunch around! Maybe take a road trip, stay in a hotel and do that? I know portland has plenty of good restaurants, all of which probably have some mother's day specials, call or look on the web, be sure to make reservations, from what I now mother's day is more popular than valentine's day when it comes to restaurants and flowers!

For years, we have gone to Country Buffet for Mother's Day. The kids can get what they want because there is a huge selection. From my experience, even picky kids can find something to make them happy, and so can the adults!

Hello,
Do you have a tea house there? We have a couple places that are tea houses. You can have a grown up tea party with your girls. In most tea houses there is food, and dress up items. It is really fun and yummy. We do this for Mother's day every year. Many dads go too. It's not uncommon. Well good luck and have a fantastic Mother's day.
