My son is in College, living in a dorm out of state and my daughter is still at home but taking college classes under dual enrollment. I am living on Social Security as I am fully disabled. Any ideas for affordable gifts for them???

Darling Son likes music, attends a Christian College and loves racing, whether its triathlons or stock cars. It gets cold where he is but rarely snows.

Darling Daughter likes music, surfing, HORSES, and art. She has her permit and really enjoys watching movies at home with her friends.

Hubby is into motorcycles, fitness and anything technical.

I can do crafts but am limited by the severe arthritis in my hands.

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for all your ideas. I ended up getting them both toiletries and a few clothing items I found on clearance and then each one got one thing on their list that was inexpensive. They had a great Christmas and enjoyed their holiday. The big hit, I think, was the knock off brand of nerf shooters that they have had wars with for the last couple days! Thank you everyone for your ideas!

Hello K., {my neices name as well} love it...

I was thinking sweetie, I never looked at gift "giving" as affordable. Seeings that your Christian and the gift of "giving" is an act of kindness in itself, why not give a small get together for them all, and string popcorn & trim the tree all of you, their family, & friends...then watch a movie afterward.

You really don't have to give anything but yourself my friend is what I'm saying. I always make my gifts or use recycable gifts. Gifts that were given to me and I cannot use myself, just wrap those up & give them out.
It doesn't matter what you give hon, they will love you unconditionally anyway. I can tell you have brought two wonderfully gifted children from the lord into the world!

Keep the faith & enjoy your time with your loved ones!

Giving is seeing someone's eyes light up & the smile on their faces!

For your children you could try to organize photos of them from their childhood on up and put them in an album for each. Or if you have video make a movie for them both.
I am sure your hubby would enjoy this too, perhaps in a motorcycle themed album!
Have a wonderful Holiday season!!

Both of my girls are living in a dorm and for Christmas this year they are getting things they really need due to a short income. They both work as RA's to pay for their dorms and meal plans. We will be filling a basket with laundry soap, softner, body wash, body lotion, maybe a new towel and things along that line. The youngest of the two suggested it as she says those things cost a lot of money. Also I usually try to crochet them something each year. Last year I made them scarfs for the cool days. Not sure if I will get something made this year or not. We have decided not to exchange gifts and focus on the girls. Be proud that your children are in college and I am sure they will understand same as ours will it there isn't much under the tree. To make Christmas fun we are doing a game of clues where they will have to figure out the clues to find their presents. We did this a couple of years ago and they loved it. Also let your daughter make some homemade Christmas cookies or candies. It's a fun family project. Just relax. They are adults and will understand. Christmas means much more than a bunch of gifts under the tree.

I was thinking baking cookies and mailing them with $10 to get some milk and maybe a few others snacks. Keep it simple. What about cards, stamps, etc. to mail letters home and to friends. Quarters for the washing machine? Popcorn, cookies, something homemade. I know when I was in college I loved care packages with stuff from home. Good luck, your hubby and kids will survive and you will too.

Yankee Candle has a sale going on until the 30th, Buy 2 Jar candles get 2 Free! It will be around $49 I think, but it would be for FOUR of the $24 candles. It basically makes the candles $12.49 each. You MUST have the coupon though, but I have the link for it! I am going to do it and give them as presents! Thought this might help!

Since you mentioned music first as one of their interests, I have found iTunes gift certificates are always a hit with young adults (that is if they have iPods). Many people shy away from giving gift certificates because they feel it's an inadequate gift since it's not BIG and doesn't really require wrapping, but I'm always happy to get a gift ceriticate of any sort myself. Or maybe a DVD of their favorite movie.
