Hi - I am in desperate need of ideas/places for my daughter's birthday party. We're still at the point where she invites her entire class, and then we have some family to include on top of that. I know, I know, it's way too many people, but even if I cut it down to just the girls in her class, I'm still looking at about 20-25 people. She's done the Little Gym a few times already and doesn't want to do it anymore. I was looking at Monroe Street Movement Space, but I would like some other options as well. Any ideas that would hold around 25 kids in teh close to Hoboken vicinity?

What can I do next?

Hi, I may not be too good at this being that I am not a mom and I have no children. I love kids though and this is my humble advice -

Think about what the child likes, then think about a place the child likes and try to unite the two.

What do you think she'd think of a Firefighter Party. I know its not very "girlie" but you can rent, for fairly cheap, a firehouse's hall and then have the firefighter theme. Perhaps the kids can get a lil' tour of the firehouse, truck, etc.

Could be fun for EVERYONE big and small!

When my daughter was this age, I had a "sleepless" party. There is a party place in my area that holds kids parties and they do all the old fashioned games you did as a kid at bday parties in someone's basement, pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs, freeze dance, hot potato, etc. And they had a choice of crafts (we went to one where the kids decorated ceramic pots and then planted a small plant in it) I think we chose tshirt painting. We had it on a weeknight cuz it was a little less $$ than a weekend, on the invitation I wrote that the kids should wear their pj's. All the parents said it was a great idea cuz the pizza was their dinner, and no cared if they got paint on their pjs (the place gave the kids smocks anyway) and when they left the party, they were all ready for bed! Also, to save $$ I make the cakes, and my daughter loved to decorate. Nothing fancy, just spelling her name out with candies on the icing and some candles, it was very cute.
If you don't have a party place like this near you (I think the one near me was called, Birthdayland Express, my daughter is going on 13 now, I can't remember for sure) you can rent out a hall, like an Elk's Lodge or something, and try hiring camp or day care counselors. They work with kids and know all the games, or u can buy arts & crafts for them to make, but make sure u have enough adults helping u if you can't hire. Oriental Trading has a lot of kits that u can buy by the dozens, and not $$. Another suggestion, is bowling. They have bumpers in the lanes so kids don't get gutter balls. Some bowling alleys have a ramp for little ones to use to give the ball momentum to go down the alley even if they can't throw it. And it is all electronic now so no one has to keep score. Usually, the bowling alley puts a sign up wishing a happy birthday with the child's name. And my final suggestion, is our local Y holds bday parties and they had wonderful suggestions, like gymnastics, basketball, and they had the supervision for the party. Good luck, I'm sure you have a wonderful party for all to enjoy!

Have you heard of Lili's Parties? They are a full service party planning group who specialize in children's birthday parties in the tri-state area. They are in the process of finding a retail space in Hoboken but in the meantime can come to your home, community room, or find you a space in town and really handle the whole party. They even have cheaper options where they come in and just do a custom activity and dancing with the kids. Can't say enough good things about them! Hope that helps.
