Need Ideas for 16Th Birthday Party for a BOY

I would like to do something special for my stepson's 16th birthday this summer but don't want to do a Sweet 16 obviously! My only ideas thus far: rent a limo for him and his friends to cruise around (but where would they go?), rent a room at a movie theater and see a summer movie then have cake, etc., a "Super 16" party based on super heroes (like the Avengers coming out this summer) but I am worried the kids won't get into it, pool party (rent clubhouse) but that feels tired since he's already done it before and EVERYONE has done it. I feel like this is a milestone - his last big step before he becomes a man at 18 so I want it to be fun and unique. FYI - he isn't a mans man - he hangs out with girls and likes Anime so a sports type party would be out. Also, he will not be getting a car and probably won't be getting his license. That's another story but the point is, the party can't be "car-centric." Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I (we) have decided on a pool party with a DJ - it's going to be a Sweaty and Sweet 16 party with the invitation saying to get sweaty hanging pool side and dancing to the music and getting sweet by loading up on candy from the candy bar and ice cream from the build your own sundae bar. Yes, we will serve real food as well! LOL I am going to get some sweat headbands personalized from Oriental Trading and put those along with some candy in bags saying "Thanks for getting sweaty; enjoy the sweets!" It's a pool party but hopefully I can put enough spin on it to make it different and fun! Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Do you live near an amusement park? You could get tickets for him and a few friends and drop them off for the day.
For my daughter's 16th she went with a group of friends to Benihana for dinner. I left her with enough money to pay for it so the girls were "on their own" and they had a great time.
I see some of the other moms saying just ask him what he wants to do, but if he's anything like my son you'll probably just get a shrugging "I dunno" LOL!
Good luck :)

Can you rent a limo and have the driver (a cool friend of yours) supervise them at a drive in movie? Are there any more drive in movie theaters in your community?

If not have the driver drive them around the city for 2 hours. Party bus...

Check to see if you have a Game Truck franchise in your area. We did a Game Truck for our son's birthday and it was a huge hit. He's a lot younger, but I could see it working great for a teen. It's a big truck filled with video game systems such as Wii and Xbox.

My 16th was a suprise brunch with my girlfriends set up by my mom. She is such a nut and knows I LOVE brunch - even then - lol.
FOr a boy, not car themed, could it be go-cart themed?? go to a cart place and do time trials or relay races? I know there are some issues with safety, so maybe if you rented out the place for an hour or so you would have a little more free reign.

When this summer? If he likes Anime, has he been to Otakon? Its in Baltimore, MD

Maybe rent a room and attend the convention for the weekend? Or rent a limo and he can attend for a day with some friends? We were at the Inner Habor last year at the same time. Had no idea it was going on. People watching was very memorable!

Have him pick a few close friends and do the movie and then let them come back to the house for cake and video games.
YMMV

Even though he's not into sports, Laser Tag or Paintball parties are fun, even for the girls :).

Hi, S.:

Had you thought about either a dress up going out to dinner, or less formal and out to the local restaurant.
Give him an old fashion I.D. Bracelet.

Just a thought.
Happy Birthday.

What does HE want to do? My son is into video games so one party, the guys all brought their computers and they connected them all together and played into the night. Another party, they all went paint balling. Even if EVERYONE has done something, it doesn't mean it's a bad idea. If your son wants to do the pool party thing again, why not? You might think it's a big milestone, but he might just want to hang out with his buddies like he normally does.

What about pizza and laser tag. My son went to an outdoor laser tag party (not in the area) and loved it. Another idea id be Wolf trap. It has a lot of concerts the boys may like.

Good luck!
