This is a little different than a normal wedding shower. My best friend and her soon to be husband have been together for 12 years now. They have a 16 month old little boy. They have decided to get married on their 13th anniversary on Feb 9th- this year. She threw me a WONDERFUL baby shower for my first. I did not get to help with her baby shower due to being so sick. Well, she does not need the "normal" things you would for a house....they are pretty well set. BUT, I do think that she deserves a shower like every bride. I just need to be creative on what type of shower and so forth. Any good ideas?????

What can I do next?

We gave one of our friends an "Around the Clock" shower. You assign everyone a time of day-1:00pm, 12:00am,etc.,when they call to rsvp. This gets the guests thinking creatively and the honorees get some unusal gifts.

I think the garage sale theme is a good idea. If you decide to do that you should check in to Myregistry.com which allows you to add anything from anywhere and add comments as well. The couple or you can personalize the registry with photos and or videos. It also a place where they can set up a fund and describe what it is for... a general pot or a specific fund... which is good for anyone's budget!

Lingerie showers are always fun. I didn't have one for my wedding, but I have heard of a lot of people doing them. It's something more fun and laid back, and she'll probably get stuff that she doesn't already have. This would be good to since they have been together so long, lingerie could spice things up a little bit.

How about doing a ladies brunch instead of a traditional type of shower? Or, since they have been together so long, a gift card shower for date-night out? (request that gifts should be in the form of gift cards for restaurants, movie theatre's, baby-sitting offers, etc.) Another idea could be a spa shower....might get a little pricey, but I'm sure most spa's have bridal packages for the bride and friends.

What about an in-home wine tasting? We taste 6 different wines with cheese and chocolate and learn about wine as we go. We offer host specials as well, and the opportunity to join the wine club and purchase wine at a discount.

We also offer customized wine labels where you could put a picture of the couple and your own message on the bottle. These could be favors for the guest, or a great unique gift for the couple.

Have a great time at the shower!

Since they have been together 12 years already, I would not go the traditional route.

I like the spa shower ideas with massage, manicures, pedicures. Lingerie sounds good too. Since they have a 16 month old, babysitting coupons might be nice so they can get away for date nights. Maybe a "spice" night could be fun!

I keep seeing a post on mamasource for Pure Romance and I think that could be fun. You have to have the right/open minded group but I think that could be a fun party. I went to a shower similar to that years ago and we had a blast. Hmmm If you book pure romance I need commission from that rep.....HA HA HA just kidding.

Just make it fun. SOunds like you have a lot of good ideas!

You'll can go to the spa with a few other friends and get your hair and/or nails done and massages. Call around there are a lot of spas that offer packages like that.
The lingerie party is fun and you can suggest other things to bring- massage oils, music CD's etc...
If there is a group of friends you can all buy a big gift for both of them a massage table, massage chair or China [if they have never bought any really nice kind]
Those are just some ideas. Can you tell that I love massages???
Good Luck and Best wishes to the couple....

Since they've been together for 12 years, I bet some of their stuff is old and broken. Or outdated by technology. How about a "garage sale" shower? You'll need to find out what they have that needs replacing: old towels, bedsheets, blenders, etc. Then have the shower in the garage with tables set up with all the old stuff out. The guests bring in the new stuff and "pay" for the old stuff with the new. Then the guest takes the old stuff and can either donate it to charity, or somebody can gather everything to donate it all at once. Or take it to the dump, or freecycle it.

This will require some cooperation from the happy couple on letting you know what needs to be replaced. Do they need new dishes (or just extras?)
