Hi, I want to install Skype, but feel a little unsure of how it all works and what equipment (webcam, earphones, etc.) is best to purchase. I would like to talk with someone who has used it and can give me advice in this area. Thanks, R.

What can I do next?

I'm in the process of hooking myself up on Skype too. We just ordered headset/headphones, in fact, both my husband and I did, not knowing that the other one did, so I have two brand new unopened sets. Let me know, if you'd be interested in purchasing a set from me. I know we got it on sale.

What equipment you need does depend on what kind of computer you have. If you are on a PC, everything works, but I had a hard time getting a webcam for my Mac and needed to install an extra patch to get it to work.
And I would definitely consider getting a headset, with earphones and a microphone. I use a laptop that has small speakers on it and sometimes it's quite hard to hear.
Aside from the initial set-up, it's incredibly easy and fun to use. You can also buy equipment directly from the Skype web site, check the store link. Good luck!

If you have speakers on your computer you don't have to have earphones (they are nice to have because sometimes you can get some echos). Earphones and microphone just plug into your already designated plugs. If you also want a webcam you will need to plug it into your USB drive and install it.
Any old earplugs or microphone will do. Webcams are the hardest of the three---if you go to a best buy or something just ask one of the employees some webcams are more user friendly then others, you kind of get what you pay for with them.

Skype itself is VERY easy to use. Its actually my only phone line now! If you have more specific questions I love my skype so feel free to message me!

It couldn't be easier!! Skype has allowed my parents see their grandchild from their computer in Mexico and saved us so much money!!

You do need a webcam if you want to see the other person - otherwise you can also just use it to talk as you would on the phone. Earphones are good as sometimes there is an echo.

All you do is download Skype from the website set up a user name - find friends and family who have it (or sign them up) and you're ready to go!!
