My son was the same age as yours when I left my ex-husband (for the same reasons almost). He had a very hard time with potty training after that. My personal opinion...it could have a lot to do with the home situation. But you have to consider the fact that he may have not been completely ready for the transition to regular underwear all the time. I would maybe put some type of pull-up or training pants on him when he is sleeping. That way if he does have an accident (in his sleep or when he is waking up) he does not get embarrassed about it. I hope this helps! I can sympothize completely with you on this whole situation, I was your age when I left the father of my children. If you ever need to talk to someone, or just need to vent, let me know and I will give you my im name.

N.,
I have a little girl and they are completely different creatures when it comes to potty training. But I sympathize with you about the separation/divorce issue I also am your age with a 4year old and I have seen changes in my daughter that are killing me. I have been trying to get her in as many activities possible to help shield her from the surroundings and one thing I been doing is trying to get active play groups to meet after school or on the weekends. When the household breaks in that fashion they are apt to act out their feelings in anyway. If you ever need anyone to talk to or just want to get the kids together to play give me a call. Hang in there. Like everything "this too shall pass" ###-###-#### V.

I don't think you could know for sure why he has seemed to regress with the potty training. It could be what is going on at home, he could be embarrassed to get up to go to the bathroom in front of the class, or it could just be laziness. I would recommend www.pottytrainingsolutions.com they carry a product called PODs and it is terrific for kids who are almost potty trained or for ones who are, but seem to have some trouble at times like your son. I wish you the best during this hard time your family's life.
