Does anyone have any suggestions for a natural way to help with concentration and focusing. I cannot seem to stay on task & finish anything. I am overwhelmed with my very busy life. I have a full time job at home which allows me some time for my other part time jobs. I am sure I have ADD but do not want to take precription drugs. I already checked with mamaherb.com and they suggested Roman Chammomile tea. Any one have any comments or suggestions?

What can I do next?

I have started to take homeopathic remedies (I was a skeptic until I took a remedy for migraines and my irritable bowel syndrome- and it worked better than the prescription medicine)

Go to 1-800homeopathy.com. They have remedies for everything including babies on up to elderly people. Even pregnant or recovering from pregnancy. And even pets! Try them out! It's amazing and not expensive. It's also not medicine (it's like herbal) and non addicting. And you can take it with medicine.

Just take my advice and read up on it. It's worth it.

PS. St. John's Wort helps with concentration as does Ginko Biloba.

If you are willing to step out of your comfort zone and go see an alternative Dr. I know a great one. I had simliar problems, he diagnosed me with Adrenal Fatigue, I take an herbal suppliment, and changed my diet, and I am feeling great. He is a naturopath, holisistic Dr, but unlike many he really is an MD not just a DO. If you would like his info let me know.

Candy, sometimes food allergies can make it difficult to focus the brain. I've had great success with NAET, a treatment that some acupuncturists are trained in. www.NAET.com has more information on it, and you can search for a practitioner in your area. I was cured of my lactose intolerance (14 years w/ NO cheesecake - torture!) and my children (10 & 13) have been w/o antibiotics for nearly 4 years. We just don't get that sick since the treatments. Best of all, my daughter, who used to totally space out after eating sugar, can sit and read for hours now. Good luck!

You might want to look at some of the supplements listed on this webpage: http://www.blockcenter.com/ADD_ADHD/Facts_Information.htm...
I take a combination of the B vitamins, magnesium and the supplement DMAE that helps alot with helping me concentrate. However, if I consume foods to which I'm allergic (egg whites are the most recent culprit), it doesn't matter how many supplements I take, I don't have focus. I also have to avoid gluten (found in wheat, rye, barley and most oats) and dairy. Also, the hormonal changes that come with peri-menopause (the 10-15 years preceeding menopause), such as lower estrogen, can impact focus. So, you really should see a doctor and get all your hormones checked before you start trying to fix the problem with supplements. You also want a doctor that will use bio-identical rather than synthetic hormones if you need those.

Honestly I take L-Theanine. It helps my brain calm down.
lol
I used to turn on at night, when my head hit the pillow... I couldn't stop thinking or even sleep well.
if you go to http://www.vrp.com/SearchResults.aspx?page=LIST&free_... you can read studies on it, etc.
It was recommended to me the first time my husband went to Iraq. I promise it makes a HUGE difference.
Not a cure all, but exercise helps too!
And, I am thinking of YOGA... I hear that is great too!
GOOD LUCK!

I recommend reading the book "Battlefield of the Mind" by Dr. Joyce Meyer. She's a Christian author and not only does it talk about ways to have a focused mind, but it helped me with anxiety and depression.

Have you always had these problems or just recently. If it is just recently, it is not ADD. If you have ADD you were born with it. You could just be, like you said, overwhelmed.

Sorry if this info is repeat for you...I did not read the responses....I take about 2500mg of Omega 3's. I do the Cod Liver Oil (get it from Mikes Health Collection, liquid in orange flavor---no fishy burps and it mixes with juice well. It is by Nordic Naturals. The DHA part of Omega 3's will aid in focusing and overall brain development. The EPA is good for mood, depression and anxiety. The omega 3's will have both in them. It has worked for me.

Hello Candy,

have you looked into aromatherapy? essential oils can help you too. Lavender oil is awsome! it relaxes you. Just a couple of drops on a tissue by your bed will help you sleep better...which will help you have better days. You can also use it during the day. The other messages have good points too. make sure there isn't a hormonal imbalance and that food allergies/aversions are not messing up your hormones. In the last couple of years I figured out that milk makes me very moody and soy brings out the 'dictator' side of me...which would be OK if I was running a small rogue country (LOL!!)

See if what you're eating affects you and have your hormone levels checked.
