Hello everyone. My name is R.. I currently live in Ft. Worth. My family will be moving to SA next month. My 5 yo will be in Kindergarten this fall and he has Autism. He has been in school already for 2 years so we have experience with that. I know that NISD and NEISD are great districts. What I don't know are which schools within those districts have good special education programs?? I am at a loss here and don't know where to start in finding a school so we can look for a place to live. I have called the directors of both districts and can not get anyone to answer a phone or call me back. Granted it is summer, but I really need some help and am desperate for a place to start here! I hope there is someone out there who can point me in the right direction! Any help is so appreciated!

What can I do next?

Hi, when our son was in elementary school we were in the NEISD. The way that district and NISD work is, they have cluster schools. There are only certain schools within the district that have an Autism program and that is where he will go. It doesn't matter where you live they will bus him to his cluster school. We lived in a Wetmore elementary territory but since that wasn't the school with the Autism program they bused him to Redland Oaks E.S. These districts are great because they have Autism programs, not like other districts like they one I am in, Schertz that only has one special ED class. You don't want him in that. I hope I have helped.

Hello R.,
My name is D. and I am a mother of 2 and have lived in SA all my life. Here is a website that will hopefully give you all the info that you need: www.ESC-20.net Once your on the home page just click on "Special Education" under the ESC-20 Quick Links, then on the left of the screen click on "Autism", then click on "Contacts". It will give you all the school districts in SA's number and contact persons for Autism. I also have a friend who's nephew has autism and attends Southwest ISD. Her e-mail is ____@____.com. I am sure she wouldn't mind getting you more information about help. We both graduated from SWISD and work here. There is also a website: www.greatschools.com that will give you all kinds of info on any school. I hope I was some help, feel free to contact me with any other questions @ ____@____.com luck with your move and finding a great school for your children!

Hi R.!
I live in NISD & Boone Elementary is a fabulous school for special needs! It is a Title One school, so there are quite a few children on free or assisted lunch programs. One of the things this school does is pour money into their special needs program. My cousin has a son w/ Autism & came to San Antonio during the Katrina hurricane in Louisiana. She actually stayed here longer than expected because Boone took her child from a place in his needs that the teachers back in La. told her he was at his "maximum" capacity & RAN with him...it was amazing the things they did & how incredibly committed they are to their kiddos. My son has PVL, a form of encepholapathy (sp?) in which he has low to no muscle tone. They think it stemmed from a stroke while in my womb. He is 2yrs/2mos so Easter Seals will only handle him for 10 more months & then he will be attending Boone. I don't know about any of the other schools & their special ed departments, but I know that what the school may lack in money, they make up in the love & caring & fun they have with this handful of special kiddos! (oh, they even installed special playground equipment that is wheelchair accessible!)
Hope you find what you are looking for!
Warmly,
C.

I know that Dellview & Colonial Hills both have a Special ED program.
My friend from CYO has a son with Autism who attends the program at Dellview. Before he was diagnosised and attending school he was just a physical body that only made strange noises.
Since he has been in the program at Dellview we have seen him begin talking, walking & running around, playing on the playground. He is still in his own little world for the most part but we have seen him grow so much. My friend has alaso changed with the whole experience. She is a strong women who is so proud of her baby now.

R.,
i am a mom with 2 kids. i am also a school counselor in the north east school district. i can assure you that the special ed. programs are phenomenal. before i recommend a school, it would be helpful if i knew what kind of house price range you will be looking at because that is going to depend on everything as far as what school your child will attend. feel free to e-mail me and i will respond. good luck and god bless.

Hi R., I live the Alamo Hights school district and there is a good school called Howard Early Learning Center. They teach PPCD ( speach delay/social) Then Pre-k and Kinder'. After that move on to the elementry school. I like this area things are close by and its nice to live in with out being super expensive either. As for your little one, thats two, Easter Seals is a program wich helps children with austism, sensory and or speach delays. We have two boys and both have special needs. Ryan is will be 3 in Sept and has been getting Easter Seals twice a week for free and another plus is they come to you ( at home). Then when kiddos turn 3 helps get them into PPCD or other needed service. If you need help with SSI ext.

Also Ryan is seeing a developmental specialist for possiable diagnoses of autism as well. feel fee to e-mail me ____@____.com If you would like some referances for Dr's and or schools

P.s love the way you spelt Jayson its cute
