Here's the deal. My son (who will be 3 in Nov.) is in pre-school. The bus picks him up at 12:45 and drops him off at 4:10. He has speech 2 days a week from 10:30 - 11:15, 5 minutes from our house. I want to go back to work, but I am trying to figure out how to work with his schedule. I assume that I will have to hire someone to come into my home 5 days a week to be with him and take him to speech(yes I am having a very hard time with this, but we need the 2nd income). I was hoping that whatever job I get I would be able to get home to get him off the bus. Does this sound fesable or am I in lala land? Also, how do I go about finding someone (a nanny?) that I can trust with my son and in my home? How much should I pay?? This is totally new situation so I am clueless with this. Thanks so much for your input and advice!

What can I do next?

Just a comment about the other posts...most school "latchkey" programs are only for Kindergarten and up.

I think it is feasible to find something where you work until 3 or 3:30. You will probably have to be to work by 7 or 7:30 though.

I'm assuming he has some sort of learning disability, which is why he is bused to pre-school?

I pay 10$ an hour for a college age babysitting with a teaching degree. I would call a local university--- not sure where you live, I live close to Oakland University and ask if they have a list of nannys. My cousin found her 2 day a week nanny this way and she is awesome.

Good luck.

I worked as a nanny throughout college. I was paid $10/hour.

When you look for a nanny, look for a person with an early childhood background. Rochester College & Macomb Community College have Early Childhood Programs and have job posting boards.

The school district should have "latchkey" so on the days that he just has school-you should be able to drop him off at school and he will spend the morning in latchkey and then go to preschool for the afternoon.

You can find a nanny by running an ad in the local paper. You can look on craigslist.org

if yuo use craigslist.. you get email responses so you can do an initial screening by the email..

you can ask around if someone knows anyone looking for a part time babysitting job.

There might be a home daycare near your home or school that will take your son part time. look on the michigan.gov websiter and find the listing of all of the licensed childcare centers.

I pay $10 an hour... for a mature adult caregiver for 2 toddlers.

there are good people out there.. you just have to look around.

you can find a great nanny in the 350-400 a week range.
care . com is a great resource.
first before learning how to find a nanny I would make sure this is feasible income wise.
4 is early to get home - you would have to leave at 3:30 but with a 7 start time that may work....
medical would be a great place!
what is your background? do you have a career to go back too?
