Had to change insurance, to cigna, and my current OBGYN (Elizabeth Garcia with Women's Specialists-awesome doc.) only delivers at Pres. If we have another one, who should I see. First pregnancy was uneventful, second included bleeding, preterm labor (31 weeks) and then I delivered at 36 weeks after 5 weeks bed rest and meds; on top of that baby wasn't breathing well and stayed in NICU for 11 days. Any advice or suggestions on another OBGYN? Or CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife)?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ok so I took a home pregnancy test today, and it's positive! So I made an appointment with CNM Caspar at womens hospital. I actually ran into my OBGYN today while I was running errands, one toher office and caught her before she went in. And talked to her and she was as dissapointed as I was with my insurance change. But at least I was able to thank her for all her great work with me and for "running" literally into the delivery room to deliver my second, just in time. She only had to catch-I only pushed 3 times. Wow! Cant believe we're doing this again sooo soon. Thanks for all your advice and suggestions. I actually talked to a girlfriend who reccomended Caspar. But I will hope to meet the other providers there during my many prenatal visits. First apointment is April 25.

I really like Dr. Louisa Chavez - she is downstairs at the womans hospital. I have delivered at both the womans hospital and presbyterian. i too like how nice the staff is at the womans hospital. But for med reasons, I would much rather be at presbyterian. But if you have to be at the womans hospital, I would highly suggest Dr. Chavez.

Dr Staci Mayer is fabulous! She takes Cigna as well. I had several problems with my first daughter. She spent 11 days in the NICU. It was very scarey. My second daughter I had to have an emergency C-Section because the amnotic fluid was low. She was fine. Big relief. She delivers downtown at Good Sam. It is not the nicest hospital, but it has the NICU that we so needed the first time. So I think it is worth it to deliver there in case there is a problem. -A.

My Ob/Gyn is Dr. Louisa Chavez. Her office is actually located in the Women's Hospital. She is a really great OB/GYN but is currently only taking OB patients, i.e. you'd have to be pregnant for her to take you on as a new patient. I can't speak to her skills in the delivery room because all 3 of my kids were delivered by the on-call doctor. Dr. Chavez has a great staff and we really like her. She is very knowledgable and she welcomes all the questions you could possibly have.

Another OB/GYN that I've heard great things about in that system is Dr. Carmona (both my sister in law and my workmate had her). I think she is also located in the Women's Hospital.

Hope that helps.

Dr. Lichmacher is good but Lovelace uses mostly midwives. If you want to see one of the doctors you have to be wait longer and fight with the appointment people. I have heard from a couple moms that have delivered at both Pres and Lovelace womens hospitals and all of them say that Lovelace has nicer and more attentive nurses. Congratulations and good luck with the pregnancy!

I had my son Kyle at Womens Hospital and it was a wonderful experience. I would recommend Dr. Penakis (sp?) He was the absolute best. Any CNM in his office is also great. Sounds like you may also need a perinatologist? I STRONGLY recommend Dr. Hedstrom, her staff, including J. Krawchuck are great. As a matter of fact, there diabetes team is still taking care of me! Good luck

Hi J., I really like Dr. Douglas Krell, I think he is very good (I did not have a good experience with my first obgyn AT ALL). The only thing is they moved to Rio Rancho (he is not longer at the Women's Hospital 4705 Montgomery Ave. NE)
His office number is ###-###-####. I hope this helps!!!
