Hello-

I'm looking for an Ob/Gyn (prefer a female but just want a great doctor) that is affiliated with Northwestern Hospital. I'm fairly new to the area and would really appreciate a good referral.

What can I do next?

Hi - My doctor with my first pregnancy was Dr. Ann Star. I delivered at Northwestern Prentice downtown. She was great. And Dr. Jenny Friedman, another doctor in her practice, actually delivered my daughter since she was on call that day. She was super nice and great also. Hope this helps some. - L.

Hi D. --

I've had 3 kids/2 pregnancies with my practice at Northwestern and I love everyone I've dealt with there. My first pregnancy, a singleton, was handled beautifully and lovingly by the midwives in the practice and they remain my "primary" caregivers. Carol Hirschfield is the main person we dealt with in the midwives' portion of the practice. My twin pregnancy had to be handled by a doctor in case of complications. Again, I saw all the doctors in the practice and liked all of them. My main doc was Scott Moses, who I adored. They deliver at Northwestern and their offices are at 680 N. Lake Shore Drive. They do ultrasounds in office in most cases, which is nice. Their number is ###-###-####.

I used Dr. Julie Barton she was great. On our first visit we went into her office to discuss all concerns and she is fabulous. I was able to call her with all concerns and she alway returned my calls asap.

The Prentice center is great too! I thought the nurses were not so nice, but after witnessing my newphews birth at another hospital (he was sick at birth) I knew that NW was the very best!! Good luck!

I go to THe Association for Women's Health Care. They are on Michigan Avenue and they only deliver at Northwestern. I see Dr. Baum (he is a man) but I have a friend who sees Dr. Sue Hungerford and she LOVES her! The phone there is ###-###-####. I also had Dr. Sibul deliver my baby (my Dr was out of town) and he was excellent but he is also a man. Hope this helps.

The Women's Group is great - there are about 6 physicians and 3 nurse practitioners. All physicians are wonderful and have at least 15 years of experience - the one I saw most was Dr. Katz, but Dr. Levine delivered me. You are advised to meet all of them over your prenatal visits, because you never know who will be there to deliver you.

Hi, I have used Dr. Mary Fausone at Univ. Gync. in the Galter Pavilion, since moving here 6 years ago. A friend from the area recommended her. We are about to move so I won't be there anymore but I really liked her and her office.

I used the Midwives at Northwestern Memorial physicians group. They are backed up by a great staff of ob/gyns. If midwives are not for you check out the ob practice in the same group. My girlfriend goes to Dr. Chen (female) and loves her. below is the link to her website. She is accepting new patients. If you are interested in the midwives and would like more info, there appointment number is the same as the doctors. Also I would be able to answer any questions. M.

Hi -

I recently switched to Progressive Care for Women (pc4w.com) after my son was born. It was recommended to me by a woman who delivered at NW. All, but one, of the doctors are female.

Their office is a block from the hospital.

Good luck & congratulations (my son just turned 1 - best thing ever...)

I would recommend contacting the midwife group at 680 N. Lakeshore, led by Carol Hirschfield. Particularly if your pregnancy is not high risk, I would very strongly recommend working with the midwives. I started with an OB, but when I had to transfer care during my first pregnancy, (my OB had her baby when I was 37 weeks along!), I transferred to the midwives and had my second child with them, too. Good luck!

Hi D.,

My doc is a male, but WONDERFUL. I've been going to him since I was 17 (now 37). He was in business with is dad, but his dad retired last year. He is in the Garland building on Wabash & Washington. His name is Dr Raymond McDermott (about 45-50?). I had my first baby in November (miscarried just before that). I've had fibroid tumors and surgeries. His bedside manor is awesome. He is sincere and will try everything to make you comfortable. I beleive he teaches some type of class at Northwestern as well. Not sure though.

His nnumber is ###-###-####.

P.S. I am a patient of his brother...a dentist if you need one. ###-###-####. His name is Thomas.

Good luck with your pregnancy and cherish every moment. They get sooo big sooo fast.
