We had a hard time finding infant care downtown as well - I'm due in April. We were able to get into Honey Tree Learning Center near the Clark & Lake Blue line stop. There is no fee for getting on the waiting list if there is a wait. It might be worth giving them a call to check their availability.

C.,

I am also expecting my first child in May, and will also need part-time care for the baby in August. My husband and I have been dragging our feet regarding day care and I'm sure there is no way we'll be high enough on a waiting list at this point. I was hoping to find a nanny (since there is no waiting list for that kind of care) to come to my condo in the West Loop on the days we need her. Would you be willing to share a nanny with me? Let me know if you're interested.

I'm a new mom as well and just went through the "finding a daycare" ordeal. You're right, waiting lists are long, but don't let them scare you. I was persistent in calling the centers I was most interested in, and made sure that I always spoke to the same contact (usually the director). Two of my top 3 choices became aware of openings about 2 months before I needed the care, so I actually ended up having more than one option. The the month that my baby started daycare, two other centers contacted me with last minute availability.

It is unsettling to not be able to secure a space well in advance, but don't give up, keep calling your favorite centers, and most likely something will open up.

Hi C.,

I saw the above posting on mamasource, and wanted to see if you were lucky enough to find great daycare or nanny for your baby? I am due with my first baby in mid December, and am having difficulty finding a good place for March 2007. I live and work in 60657 area (Belmont, Clark, Diversey area square), and cannot afford the $400+ that a lot of places are quoting. Any advice or referrals that you might be able to share would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
