My daughter needs extra services at her elementary, but I feel she is not getting all the services she needs. She has and IEP, but I'm requesting more services.
If anyone knows of a good advocate in the South Bay (Torrance,CA) let me know.
I could sure use some advice on how to obtain all the services my daughter needs.

What can I do next?

If you go to the www.lafeat.org website, there is a list of special education attorneys. You can call these attorneys and ask for their list of education advocates in the southbay. L.A. FEAT is an autism support group but many of these families work with advocates to get their schools listening when they feel their children's needs are not being addressed appropriately.

Hi, I know how you feel. I always hope that what services my son receives is enough. I do feel they are. You have to remember it is not always how many services as much as it is the quality of the service. We have a 1:1 all day but we have had some people who are just like babysitters because they don't know behavior intervention. Then we have great therapists who teach my son and help him gain independence.

I have been advocating for my son for years and have found the PAI (Protection and Advocacy) book my best resource. It tells you about all the laws regarding special ed in California and gives you the codes, state contact phone numbers in a easy question and answer format. It even gives you sample letters to write for complaints or request for specific services. It is free or you can give a donation. Their number is (800) 776-5746

I also have a great lawyer who's managing partner has a special needs son. They are located in Los Angeles. It is called Martin & Martin. /www.martinandmartinllp.com
My lawyer is awesome. His name is Chike Oniya.

Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions. A.

I recommend Carol Behrens at the Education Center. She is an advocate and educational therapist with lots of experience. She is very dogged in getting extra services for your child. Here is the website: http://www.ed-center.com/home

Unfortunately I don't know of a good advocate in the South Bay but this article might help you advocate for your child until you can find someone. http://www.ldonline.org/article/5910

Her best advocates would be you, dad, her doctor, and therapist if she has one. IS there any social worker involved? They are great advocates.
