ok... I had the Mirena IUD inserted on Monday. And I still have labor feeling cramps and spotting. Motrin and Ibuprofen is not working. Is this normal? How long will these annoying cramps last?

My doctor told me that I will feel cramps for about an hour after insertion. Huh! NOT! The good thing is that I am not running a fever.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Yikes! Angela scared me about it going through the uterus. Anyways... everything is normal. I had an ultersoud today because the nurse couldn't locate the strings. The IUD is where it is suppose to be except the strings are in my uterus. Decided to leave it in, because it will be hell to fish it out w/o strings. ahhhh... Thank you all for your input. For warn: cramping is expected/with spotting for awhile. sucks!

I agree with Allison! Call the doc, that doesn't sound normal to me.

Hi M. -

This does not sound normal - I would contact your doctor about this as soon as possible - this would definitely be in the category of 'prolonged abdominal cramping' which can be an indication of complications with the IUD insertion - while not super common, they do happen.

I would go to emergency! if it dislodged u need to get it removed asap! I also had mirena put in and it dislodged and I felt horrible and went into emergency and I ended up having having emergency surgery to have it removed. It actually ended up breaking thru my uterus and was found floating around my ovary. get it checked out!

Sometimes our bodies reject things by showing signs of discomfort maybe lookin to try a different method of birthcontrol. Dont risk your health or ignore side effects.
