Need Advice for 5 Yo Son with Urination Problems

My 5 yo son recently started having urination accidents (even at school) and wet the bed last night (it's been at least a year since this has happened). He will all of a sudden say he has to pee and he can't seem to always hold it before we find a bathroom. Today he said sometimes it hurts when he urinates. This (the urgent feeling of having to go) started ~ 6 weeks ago. Has this happened to anyone else. I'm thinking it's probably a urinary tract infection, but could he have had it this long without it really bothering him? I know when I've had a UTI it hurts right away. I plan to call the doctor in the morning (especially now that he told me it sometimes hurts.)

What can I do next?

UTI's don't always hurt. The only way I knew I had one once was because my pee turned purple. I had no other symptoms.

males often have different symptoms than women. plus they don't get them as often as we do (our 'plumbing' is more complicated) so they don't recognize the symptoms right away. I would definately take him to the doc. Until them make sure he stays hydrated, cranberry juice is good for the urinary tract too. And don't give him ibprofin. I had a uti several years ago that went unnoticed until too late and took ibprofin which with the combo of the infections caused my kidneys to shut down. Now my case was a fluke so don't freak out! I just want to share the warning that ibprofin is very h*** o* the kidneys when dehydrated with anyone I can so they don't make the same stupid mistake I did! Go to the doc and I am sure your son will be fine! Good luck!

L., it sounds like a bladder infection, which usually boys don't get as far as I know, because it hurts he's trying to avoid going pee, and then he gets to the point that he can no longer hold it. Bless is little heart. Pray all goes good at the doctors. J.

Poor little guy...get him to the doc ASAP. In the meantime...lots of fluids, water and cranberry juice.
