Hey Ladies. The hubby and I are trying to escape the craziness of 2 kids with a quick weekend getaway. We'd like to stay within a couple hours of the Chicagoland area. We've been to Galena and Lake Geneva and would like to expand our horizons beyond those locations. Picture nice accomodations, a spa and perhaps some night life nearby. Do you know of any secret gems? Please share any suggestions. Thanks so much!

Madison, WI. It's a fantastic city with tons to do, and quite a few quaint B&Bs if you're interested in that. I used to live there in my single days. My husband and I went back and stayed at the Speckled Hen Inn, on the East side. It was a beautiful little inn with a fantastic breakfast! The owners were delightful.

W have also stayed at the Walking Iron B&B in Mazomanie, WI. There is no night life in Mazomanie, as it's a small town in the middle of no where, but the B&B would be totally worth it. The owners know how to take care of their guests. It was my favorite B&B EVER! I think it was about an hour outside of Madison?

I second Pheasant Run Inn in St. Charles. My husband and I went there and had a nice, relaxing weekend/ They have a spa, good restaurants, and a comedy club.

Also, what about a Casino hotel? They usually have spas, great restaurants, and some nightlife. The Grand Victoria in Elgin is really nice.

Not sure how far it is from Chicago, but Traverse City, MI, is nice. Nice little town with bars and cool shopping (not chain stores), nice hotels with spas etc.

Try Pheasant Run in St. Charles! There's a comedy club attached and of course a spa. Downtown Geneva is quite quaint with lots of neat shops. There's also the Aracada theater downtown St. Charles. They often have neat shows.

If that's too close to home, try Wisconsin Dells. We stayed in a fantasy suite in the winter and not only did we get great rates, but it was romantic :) Round bed, jacuzzi and fireplace!

Or the Sybaris? Heard that's romantic, but I don't care for the area. Good luck!

I hear great things about the Kohler Spa in Wisconsin. Afraid you might get snowed in? Just get a really nice hotel in Oak Brook or Lombard, go to the Kohler day spa in Burr Ridge, and have a nice meal at a nearby restaurant. Good luck! I'm jealous.

How about getting a room at a nice downtown Chicago hotel with an on-site spa? Plenty of night life there :)

Downtown Milwaukee is also really quite charming, with some pretty good restaurants. I don't know the names of any hotels there, but I know there are some good ones.

The area around Benton Harbor, MI has some really nice places (I have been told) too.

The Wilderness resort at Wisconsin Dells is a bit further, about 3 hrs, but they have an awesome spa that my husband has been to.

Door County in WI. Like Dinner Theather? Go stay at a bed and Breakfast in Peoria and go to Conklin's Barn located just outside Peoria. Here's the website. http://www.barn2.com/ for your entertainment. My husband and I did this several years ago. Very quaint.

I also like Traverse City, MI idea. Long drive but a very nice resort area!
