Need a Pediatric Dermatologist

I'm looking for a pediatric dermatologist in the Oakland or Macomb County Area. The closer to Ferndale the better, but I will travel. Both my 2 and 4 year old have mollescum contagiosum and the family dermatologist recommended by their pediatrician was horrendous! I walked out of there mid visit - and told him "you must not have children!" Yes, it was that bad. He told my daughter that he was going to give her a big owie and was telling me he was going to have her held down to burn them off even before I agreed to any treatment. My daughter was absolutely terrified. So I'm looking elsewhere for some sort of advice and solution to these stupid mollescum. We've been living with it for 5 months!

What can I do next?

Dr. Craig Singer at Northwestern Dermatology at 12 Mile and Northwestern Hwy (Southfield)is a pediatric dermatologist - great bedside manner, very smart and a dad too - you can't go wrong with him. Good luck with this.

Koprince Dermotology
Dr. J. Gammons (a woman)
I gave out their card so I don't have their number on hand.
They are off Main St. just north of 11 in Royal Oak.
They are not strictly pediatric but are great. All 3 of my kids have gone there for ecsema and this dr. has an incredible bed side manner.
I have recommended this dr. to a lot of my friends.
good luck

My daughter needed one about 6 years ago and at the time there was only one in Michigan- Dr. Tor A. Shwayder. He was witht the Henry Ford Health System. I was able to visit him downtown Detroit and in West Bloomfield. We loved him. Hope this helps.

Yikes! We are in Ferndale too, so I'm guessing the molluscum are spreading like wildfire. If you look at my previous posts, you'll see alot of suggestions etc on how to deal with these. Honestly, the best suggestion was the woman who let her kid eat chocolate while she picked the contagion out with a toothpick, etc. I did one of these on each of my kids and the spot where they were cleared up right away, no scar. Unfortunately, I could not get my kids to sit for more than one. So, I took them to a dermatologist, Oneal Coger(sp?) and the first time they saw the Physician's Assistant - she was fabulous. They put a topical liquid on each molluscum to be washed off within an hour or so. A blister then forms right where they put the liquid. When the blister heals, the molluscum goes away -sometimes. They have been back twice and they are almost gone, no scars and the kids reported only a little discomfort the first night. My oldest son had about 20 to 25 of these all over, including a couple in a very sensitive area. My younger son only had a few. When we went back the second time, the doctor saw them. He put more of the liquid on each which caused slightly larger blisters. He was also not nearly as friendly as the PA. However, there is no pain whatsoever when they put the liquid on. I think I will take them one more time for the treatment and then toothpick the straggler molluscum. good luck!

Michael Dorman in West Bloomfield (Maple and Orchard Lake) was wonderful with my son. He's not a ped, but has four children of his own.

Hi- I am so sorry about your experience. My son has ezcema and he sees Dr. James Ulery, who specializes in children. He is located in Monroe though, but he is great with my son who is only 2. Good luck to you!
