Need a New Oven, Anyone Have One They Just Love and Had Good Luck With

My oven has quit working and no longer can get the needed part to fix. I would like your opinions if you have one you really love or hate so I can figure out what to get this time around. My previous was a built-in and regular conventional oven. Anyone have a built-in they love and what about conventional vs convection any strong opinions on that either? Appreciate any inputs.

As a working mom, I would highly recommend one with a delay start. I work full time and will never have another oven without the delay start. Perfect to throw a frozen casserole, meatloaf or baked potatoes in before you leave for work and come home to supper!!

My husband was w/the military so we've moved a bunch & I've had just about everything. My favorite is a gas oven and gas top. The smooth top is great if you don't cook much and/or are a very clean & careful cook. I love cooking, have cast iron cookwear that would tear up a smooth top! Plus, after a few years, it will show it's wear & tear. On the other hand, a gas top gets dirty super fast and it's a pain to clean.

I think gas ovens cooks more evenly, so since I've had gas, I've never gone back to electric. I also have a toaster oven that is convection & I gotta say, I like that too. Convection ovens cook faster thanks to an internal fan that circulates the warm air. If there's a gas oven that's convection, I'd get it in a heart beat! That would be the best of both worlds: cooks evenly & faster! Sometimes with convection, I'd lower the temp about 25 degrees and check it half way through the cooking time, b/c many times it's already finished (that's how much faster it is)!

All in all, I'd say, if you cook like the ladies (& men) on Food Network, I'd avoid the glass top. If you're looking to save some time, I'd get a convection oven, keeping in mind that you might have to work with it on certain recipes to get them just right, after adjusting the times. As far as brands go, use Consumer Reports. Lastly, I did own an oven that was a double oven that I loved. It had a big oven on the bottom & a small oven just below the range. That small oven is what I used 99% of the time. It saved me a lot of wasted time waiting for the big oven to get hot enough & most pans fit. The only drawl back is that you have to have other places to store your pots/pans since you won't have a bottom drawer. I convinced my mom to get one & she LOVES it. It comes both in gas & electric, smooth glass top or gas range, so you can get just what you want. Happy shopping!

We just redid our kitchen and put in all Whirlpool appliances. We have a double oven with the top one being a convection oven and the bottom a traditional oven. I have LOVED them! The convection is fantastic for meat and poultry...I would purchase the same oven again. Good luck!

We bought a GE Profile stainless steel convection wall oven and while it's a good oven, I wouldn't buy a convection oven if I did it again. I rarely use the feature, and it makes the oven a bit shallower (the fan takes up room inside), which has been a pain with some things (e.g. our pizza stone barely fits, and larger baking sheets are even a tight squeeze). I'd save the extra money and skip the convection feature if I were you. Oh, and according to Consumer Reports, if you want a high end unit, you're better off going with a basic brand's (GE, Maytag, Whirlpool, even KitchenAid) high-end model rather than buying a luxury brand. The luxury brands break down much more often, and you're mostly paying for the name. (for example, my sister bought all Thermador and has problems within 2-3 years of buying the appliances).Good luck!

Good Morning C., Only thing I can suggest is go Shoppppping. Look at Lowe's, Sears, ask questions. Research research, research. Different features, styles etc.

I would love a new stove this one came with our home 10 yrs ago. But it works well and no reason to change. Dang it!!
I had a smooth top, when we moved to TX, thought I would love it but I didn't. The coil marks on the surface drove me nuts trying to get them OFF. It was well used before we had it.

Women always love Shopping so take off and Shop, Shop, Shop. Men are hunters, they know what they want, where to get it, (to start with) go in Bag it and leave.

We replaced our GE profile glass top range with a JENN-AIR 30" Double Oven Freestanding Dual Fuel Range with Convection. I love the double oven and the 5 burner gas stove. The bottom oven has the added feature of optional convection cooking. My mother was so impressed with the Jenn-Air we bought she got one exactly like it when they remodeled their kitchen. Oh, the one extra I had not counted on is having two timers. This works great for multiple batches of cookies, time outs, or bedtime timers. Hope this helps.

We love our Jenn-Air and adore it. It has a gas top with 5 burners and two electric ovens. A small oven on top and a regular oven below it(You'll never miss the pan drawer!) The top oven is large enough for one rack and heats up super fast and has toast settings etc. The lower oven has then convection feature which I find really makes things cook evenly and has room for 3+ racks so I bake 3 sheets of cookies at a time. Both ovens are self cleaning. Hope this helps!

I have an amazing oven. It is a Whirpool Polara. It is a refrigerated/range. Basically, it looks like a standard slide-in oven, but it a refrigerator and an oven. I put my meals in it in the morning, set the program for refrigerator. My meal stays cold until the designated time when the oven gets hot and cooks the meal. When I get home, it's time to eat. It has a glass cooktop, convection setting, simmer setting & is self-cleaning. This oven is a must for working women! I have an added 45"-1' every night since I don't have to stand at the oven and get dinner ready. I also use it during party time when my refrigerator is full to keep wine/salad/etc. cold. I love this oven and can't say enough good things about it. It was a little pricey, but worth every penny. I got mine at Nebraska Furniture Mart and they always have financing deal. You deserve this oven too!

I had a gas then bought an electric, thought I would love the flat top. I hate it its hard to clean with the scratches and the burning of food. It takes longer to cool down and if over boiling you have to lift the pan completely off the burner until it cools down a notch. I remember my gas one you could regulate the heat better. When cleaned You can see the dust particles on it since its so smooth. Also you have to buy a special flat top cleaner. I can't wait to go back to a gas burner type oven. Hope that helps.

We found a great deal on a scratched/dented Frigidaire electric convection oven at Lowes in Wichita on their clearance (only $650 compared to the usual new price of over $1000!) It has a beautiful shiny black flat top that cleans up quite well with Cerama-Bryte or any glass/ceramic cooktop cleaner. The burners heat up very fast and have two sizes each. The regular oven has a self cleaning setting and has a speed bake setting. It also has a timer and a setting to have the oven turn on when you are not home. It is wonderful. Food is done much quicker, but beware, set the timer for about 1/4 less time than on package directions and the temp about 5-10 degrees lower. You can cook 4 Tony's pizzas at the same time as long as the speed bake (convection setting) is on. There is a little trial and error with this, but it's worth the effort. Cookies (esp oatmeal) come out a little dry, so pull them out sooner than you think. There is a broiler element for browning the tops of food and a bottom warmer drawer that comes in handy on Thanksgiving when not everything can get done at the same time. This drawer also has a bake setting, but it takes longer to bake things in it than the regular oven. Overall, we all love it and would suggest it if you can find one on sale or on clearance. After recently shopping for an oven and talking to many sales persons trying to educate myself, Mike Goedeker at Goedeker's was the most informed and asked many questions as to the type of cooking/baking that I do. There are many choices out there, but the best for you will be determined by the time you have to prepare food and the types of foods you eat. He explains the differences using examples as to the differences in conventional, convection, and trivection. Go to Goedekers and ask for him...you will know what's best for your family after meeting with him!

We recently replaced ours and now have a Kenmore Elite double convection electric oven. I love it! Convection cooks SO much more evenly and in less time. We've had it for a year and had one minor problem (related to installation) and it was fixed promptly under the 1 year warranty from Sears. I would recommend it!
