Need a Little Fashion Advice

I have a holiday event to go to this coming weekend and am having a heck of a time finding something to wear. I have a dress that happens to be a maternity dress (not currently pregnant) that I absolutely LOVE. It's not obvious maternity wear. It's a nice jersey fabric, hangs nicely with not at all an abundance of fabric in front, just a slight gather at the bust. It's very similar to all the trendy empire waisted stuff on the market. Do you think it's ok to wear it? I'm very comfortable in it, it's pretty and would be perfect for the event. What do you think? The hang up is that it's technically a "maternity" dress. It would save me time from shopping and not to mention the $$ on another outfit I would probably wear once. And I'm a size 14 and it looks like the stuff in the plus-size catalogs.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I wore the dress an as soon as we walked in my husband's boss complimented me on it ( a guy)! I bought new shoes and jewelery to go with it. Thanks for all the encouragement to go for it!
Thank you!
C.

if you are comfortable in it, wear it. I wear maternity shirts from time to time, because they are comfortable, not because I am pregnant. To me, all maternity means is room to grow in lol, well except for the elastic front pants, those are definitely pregnancy pants. But if the dress doesn't obviously look like a maternity dress, then go for it. After all, you being comfortable is going to have a large impact on how your evening goes, If you are uncomfortable, it wont be as much fun!

If you like the dress, go for it. I'm still wearing some of my maternity clothes because they are comfortable or are still really cute.
Have fun & use the extra cash for something special.

If it's comfortable and looks nice, wear it! My husband & I were at Macy's & I couldn't believe all of the stuff that looks like maternity clothes! My youngest is 2.5 & I swear, the majority of my maternity tops look just like the ones that are all the style right now!

Have fun at your holiday event!

Go for it. I say as long as it is comfortable, looks nice and you don't feel self consious about it, you should wear it. I have a couple of maternity shirts that were really tight on me when I was pregnant and now they fit wonderful. I wear them all the time. They don't look like they are maternity and no one would ever know. So I think you should wear it. You wouldn't have to go out and spend money on something that you would never wear again, instead you can wear something you probably thought you wouldn't wear again, again.

If it looks good and you like wearing it, go ahead. I have a maternity shirt I wear all the time and constantly get compliments on it. I bought it when I was pregnant with my first son over 4 years ago. I'll miss it when it finally gets to old and ratty to wear.

Wear the dress! Seriously, I wore a maternity dress to my dad's funeral, and I had no children then! Sometimes the maternity styles are cuter than the non maternity ones! Also, some really don't look maternity at all. I am all for wearing the dress, it sounds cute!

I still wear alot of my maternity tops. they look like the stuff on the other racks and while they still fit and didnt look maternity, I wear them. Also the only fancier dress I own is maternity. but it looks plus sized so when I need to dress up I still wear it.
if you are comfortable and love the dress I say go for it. pair it with a shawl and heels and some jewelry and go for it

I have this tweed trumpet skirt from when I was pregnany that I just can not give up-I just wear a longer sweater to hide the little panel. Like everyone else has said-if you love it, just wear it with some fresh accessories, and go for it.

It sounds like you've already answered your own question... You love the dress, it doesn't look like a maternity dress, you feel comfortable in it and you'd rather not spend time and money shopping for a new dress right now... seems like a no-brainer! ;-) by the way, I STILL wear a lovely linen blouse left over from my last pregnancy - and my son is now NINE! nobody has ever said it looks like a maternity blouse, it is just loose and flow-y and it is definately comfortable. Besides, I love it and so what!?! Take care-

I say go for it! As long as you will not be concerned about it while you are at your party. If it being in the back of your mind that its maternity might bother you, then you should get something else. Besides, there are so many cute plus size clothes out there. Fashion Bug is the best! They are so stylish and cute and comfortable. There's no better time of the year to buy a cute comfy outfit. You deserve to bet a new outfit and show it off!

The biggest key to being in fashion is to look like you know you look good. If it looks good on you and you feel good in it, go for it!! Jazz it up with a few hot accesories, like some great dangle earrings and bangle bracelets. Get some great heels and you will be set!! Have a great time!

I say definatley wear it. All the fashion right now looks like maternity clothes anyways with the empire waists and flowing fabrics. Your dress sounds perfect for a nice event. You can always dress it up a little with a nice pair of dangling earings or pretty necklace. I am all for re-wearing clothes. There are a couple maternity things of mine that I still wear, might as well get a lot of use out of them.
