Need a GREAT Pediatrician

I'm in the process of changing all of our doctors over. I think a new pediatrician is just about the last one. I was holding on to my sons current pediatrician because they are great, but I just can't handle the commute anymore. Since we now live in Plainfield, I'm looking for a pediatrician that isn't too far away (we were traveling to Arlington Hts.). So a doctor in Plainfield, Joliet, Naperville or surrounding areas would be good.

I want to apologize in advance because I'm being a bit picky. I want a great doctors office, with great doctors. Someone recommended an office to me, we went, and boy was I disappointed. From the very begining when making the appointment I knew we were off to a rough start. The girl on the phone seemed disinterested, and was very unprofessional. She yawned loudly in my ear several times during our conversation(never saying excuse me or anything like that). She hesitated when asking questions, and then when I answered - she was like "oh wait, what did I ask you". So I ended up repeating myself several times. The rest of the conversation was more of the same mess. I started to change my mind right then and there, but I made the appointment anyway. And guess what? When we got there they said that I didn't have an appointment. Needless to say I wasn't surprised.

As to not make this longer than it needs to be (like it isn't already). I'm looking for an office with a friendly staff, great customer service, and doctors that care. I'd also like the doctors office to not be depressing. When children are sick - going to a dark, depressing office is not helpful. (The office we went to was in fact all gray. With no artwork or anything on the white walls, and nothing for the children to play with.) Like I said before ... sorry to be so picky. But if you can help, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks so much!
L.

I just did a meet n greet with a pediatrician in Bolingbrook that I love! They also have an office in Downers Grove. I was really impressed! The office staff was great the Dr. was so knowledgeable and not at all rushed! He really respected my role as the parent. The practice is Downers Grove Pediatrics and I really like Dr. John Webb. They office was older, but there were a lot of fun posters on the walls, he said they are in the process of building a brand new office in Downers Grove and then they will begin remodeling the Bolingbrook Office as well.

Hi Lynn,
7+ years ago we moved from Hoffman Ests. to Oswego..and as you can imagine, there wasn't a ped around here so I went to Childrens Health Partners that was just starting up and have been with them ever since. They have grown and for good reason...it's a very good practice. I see someone else has recommended as well.

ABC Pediatrics in Naperville is FABULOUS. I have been going there for over four years with both my children. Walking into the office is totally chilren friendly. The front desk girls/ guys are awesome and patient. Everyone there loves children. The doctors are ALL great. My primary is Dr. Erin Shanks and she is #1. She will take as long as you need on your visit. She will answer every sinlge question and on top of that she is great with children. We have seen all the doctors and they all are great but we like Dr. Shanks the best. When shot time comes around and 3 or four shots are needed at a time they bring in a nurse, so the nurse and the doctor each give a shot at the same time so not to make the child sit there for shot after shot. Everytime my child has been sick or had some type of emergency I call and they get me in the same day without question. My children believe it or not love going to the doctor. There phone number is ###-###-####. They are located off of 75th and Book. Again they are AWESOME.

Lynn,

Although I think the Dreyer Medical Clinic overall is not great, we have been very pleased with Dr. Benziger. He is friendly, wears goofy ties to make the kids laugh, does NOT overprescribe, will fit you in between regular appts. if all you need is an ear check, etc. He also was savvy enough to stay with the nurse when two of my boys needed strep tests--he did one while the nurse did one so that no one got freaked out by watching the other. He has been patient and understanding with my very shy 8-year old. And finally, I don't know how he manages it, but he is always, always on time which is a huge blessing when you are sitting the waiting room with 3 impatient boys! :-) Good luck!

Hi Lynn,

We love our pediatrician's office and also have many friends who love them too. Children's Health Partners, www.childrenshealthpartners.com, are in Naperville at 95th & Book. All of the peds are female and most of them have young children of their own so they know exactly what we are going through.

We love all of the doctors except for Dr. Butterfield, with whom we've had problems, but the rest of them are truly great. We have not met their newest addition Dr. Canner.

Their staff it great, their nurses have talked us through many a crisis and the peds never sound irritated if we call off-hours with questions about our sick children.

Best of luck!!!

M.

Lynn,

I love my son's pediatricians Drs. Kovar and Liberty. I had called different places and was impressed right away with the receptionist. The nurses are professional and kid friendly. Each room is hand painted with a different themed mural. The Drs. are extremely personable, friendly, love kids, and take as much time as you need.

I think they are fantastic. The link is below. Good luck.

I will second ABC Pediatrics in Naperville. Our primary doctor is Dr. Law but I have met all of the peds at one sick visit or another and like them all. The office is bright and cheery. The waiting room is kid friendly. Each room has wall stickers with a different theme(Clifford, Buzz Lightyear and Shrek to name a few!) The nurses are all great as is the front desk staff. The other things I like about the practice are:
* You see your primary doctor for all well visits and they try to first put you in with them for sick visits.
* They always get you in quickly for sick visits
* There is a phone nurse available during office hours if you have any questions about anything or are unsure if you need to come in.
* I have never felt rushed at an appointment.

Children's Health Partners is an amazing group of doctors. I totally recommend them, and they are currently accepting new patients. Michelle left a website to check them out, we have been with them since my daughter was born 4.5 years ago, and they are growing as a practice. Every doctor that they add (so far) has been awesome. My favorite is Dr. Sherer, but that might just be because I've seen so much of her with my second daughter having chronic ear infections!
