Need a Fantastic Dance Studio

I am looking for a really great dance studio near the Glenview area for my 3 year old. I have been a dance teacher for the past 10 years, so I am a bit picky :) I want a studio with very high quality instruction, strict but not mean, and if they do participate in competition, they are not the type that focus only on winning and get angry and upset when low scores are received. (I personally am anti-competition) I want it to be a studio where creativity and individuality is celebrated, rather than the kids all looking like little "robots". I told you I'm picky!!! Thanks!

Starland in Deerfield has a good dance studio. Jordyn Pins is the director of dance there and she is just as you described. They do have a 3 year old tap/ballet class and a 3yrold ballet class. Then the options grow as the kids grow. Jordyn is very charming and good with kids; everybody loves her. ###-###-####

Hi Brandie.
I work in a dental office and the girlfriend of one of my doctors there owns a dance studio in the glenview area. It's actually in Highland Park. I have never really attended a class there but have spoken to people whose children go there and they are extremely happy with the attention their children get and the services provided. I know they have an annual nutcracker performance which is increddible. Her name is Lisa. If and when you go and speeak with her tell her Zu-Zu sent ya. Here is the info hope it helps.

Check out Virtuoso Performing Arts in Niles. It is run by three sisters who all dance. I think it is a nurturing environment but they still teach good dance, not overly competitive, etc.

I highly recommend North Shore School of Dance. It's not in Glenview, but Highland Park. WORTH the trip. The faculty is outstanding; actually dancers who danced professionally. I danced 20+ years of ballet growing up (east coast) and I know ballet. The jazz, modern, tap and hip hop teachers are also excellent--real dancers who still perform professionally. Studio is also run professionally.

We're at the YMCA in Northbrook (Techny and Pfingsten) and LOVE it. My dd is 4 1/2 and we took ballet last year. This year ballet and tap. They have an excellent reputation, are really nice, don't focus the whole year on the recital (recital is optional), cost effective etc. Please let me know if you have questions. You'd probably like Miss Joni for ballet - she's been there at least 15 years.

edited to add: looks like you got all the main ones below. Plus there's Irina Makkai in Highland Park. I checked them all out. Another thing to consider is if they need to be potty trained.

Brandi,

DancEd in Northbrook is phenomenal. Not only are the dance instructors terrific but the owners are wonderful people. I know, I rent space from them to do my Jigglejammer music & movement classes. Check them out at www.danced.com. If your looking for a great music class please check out my web site too! www.jigglejamproducitons.com
Good luck

Try AMA Dance Studio in Des Plaines. Ann Marie used to teach at the park district in Park Ridge and then left a few years ago to form her own studio. She is fabulous. Everyone who goes to her studio loves it. Here's a link to some reviews of her studio on kidwinks.com: http://www.kidwinks.com/ForKids/AMADancersCo/.
