Natural Methods to Encourage Ovulation?

Hello all, does anyone know of natural remedies (herbs or supplements, etc) to help encourage ovulation? I've been tracking my cycles for 5 months now and am surprised that I am not ovulating regularly, or at all the last 3 cycles. I have been having a period for 8 months since the birth of my son who is now 19 months.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for your replies and for those who sent private messages. Although I am fairly sure that my lack of ovulation has to do with breastfeeding until 16 months, I am going to look more into PCOS just in case. I've also requested Taking Charge of Your Fertility from the library, I read it about 6 months ago, but must have skimmed the lack of ovulation section since it didn't apply to me, lol. I was disappointed that I didn't find Naturally Healthy Pregnancy at the library, I think I would have really liked that book.

After looking online, many of the herbs that you all recommended are basically the same ingredients, just under different brand names, so I picked up one from Vitamin Cottage. I've also started drinking raspberry leaf tea again, which my MW suggested during pregnancy. I am interested in the accupunture and massage techniques, so I am going to do some calling around too. Thanks again.

Dr. Christopher's line can be found at most herbal shops and is one I know and trust. They have a female reproductive caplet that I recommend.

Hi M.,
There are quite a few wonderful herbs that stimulate ovulation and support the communication between the Hypothalamus, pituitary gland and ovaries. It is great that you are charting your cycles because that can give yo more clues to the hormonal fluctuations in your body (that we all have).
Depending on those fluctuations and your body's hormonal cycles will determine the appropriate herbs for you, remember that every woman is different. A place to get started is with using an herb called Vitex or Chaste Tree Berry. You can use it in tea or tincture form. Specific dosing will depend on your body but a general dose is 3-5 droppersfull in the morning in a little water.
I am a cinical herbalist and specialize in a form of massage called Mayan Abdominal Massage and work specifically with fertility and women's reproductive health. If you would like for info please feel free to contact me directly thru Mama Source or you can call me at ###-###-####.

Hi M., my name is Debbie and I know something about this subject. There is a book called "Naturally Healthy Pregnancy" by Shonda Parker. It discusses plenty of topics, most importantly it has the one you are interested in. In fact, I used the combination of herbs mentioned in the book to get pregnant with my last baby. I was in my forties and knew we were not finished with our family. My ovulating cycle had changed dramatically over the years and I needed help. The book has two different combination of herbs to be used. One plan uses one combination you can use the whole month long. The other plan uses two combos - one the first two weeks after the 5th day of your period (which encourages ovulation) and the second combo for the two weeks after ovulation (to encourage a strong pregnancy). I hope I'm remembering it all correctly. It is a magnificent book - and all the details you will need - including the herbs and specific amounts are very clear. I order my herbs from a specific company in Florida - let me know if you want their info. my email address is ____@____.com Oh, I almost forgot - the book is $18 on amazon.com but I've seen it there used for only $12. Good luck, sincerely, Debbie

There is an herb called squawvine that I have used frequently. It tones the uterus and helps regulate the cycles. Another name it may be under is partridge berry. I buy it at my local health food store in bulk and make a mild tea to drink out of it. One tsp per cup of boiling hot water would work well and it can be drunk once a day. One thing I do notice during the menstrual cycle is that the bleeding will be heavier the first couple of days but the cycle only lasts three or four days. The tea has a very mild flavor but is an herb that was used by Native American women for hundreds of years. It can also be used to kick start labor, but tendds to panic the care givers because the after bleeding is heavier. I have used it during and after pregnancy.

I had been trying to get pregnant for the last 3yrs on all kinds of Fertility Meds. I have Polycyctic Ovarian Syndrom and have NEVER ovulated regularly.
I recently read about "Fertile XX" by Native Remedies. It contains Chasteberry and Siberian Ginseng. Both have been well known for helping with fertility. I used the drops 1-2 times per day with my water or green tea.
And after one month using it along with everything else I was doing, I ovulated and got pregnant! YEAH!
Check out their website:

Maybe it can work for you?

Vitex (chasteberry) works great for me. However, there may be underlying causes as to why you are not ovulating.

The book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Wechsler (sp?) is great.

Now, this is not "natural remedies", but....

If you don't ovulate because of PCOS, metformin was key for me. (A prescribed medication for diabetes and prediabetes) has also been shown to help women with PCOS ovulate regularly.

Finally, many women (with PCOS or not) who are not ovulating regularly, take Clomid. I took it to get PG with my oldest son, but after he was born my body seemed to reset despite the PCOS and I've ovulated regularly since then, so that I could relatively easily conceive my next two kids :)

Hi M.,

Check out www.herbdoc.com

I've used several of the herbal products from there. There are some Female Formulas as well as a Superfood vitamin/mineral supplement that might help. I feel confident that the quality and potency of these products are 100% pure, organic, wild harvested herbs. More than I could say for herbs just bought at a store. I've loved everything I've tried and had great results. God bless your search for answers!

Yoga.

I don't know why it works, but it gets my body all in sync and going like it should again.

I prefer bikra yoga (hot yoga) but I don't see why normal yoga couldn't produce the same results.
