I would like to know if anyone has tried to naturally induce labor and what methods you tried. With my son I tried the castor oil and that didn't work. I'm on baby number three and I really want to go into labor on my own and avoid a second c-section. I was induced with my first two so I have never went into labor on my own. My daughter was vaginal and my son ended up being born via c-section. If you know anything that can help, please let me know. Thanks for everything.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I am 39 weeks and ready for labor. I have been taking the Primrose Oil capsules snce my 34th week and they really helped to soften my cervix. I have been having sex and drinking red raspberry leaf tea for some time as well. At my 37th and 38th week visits, I was still closed but I was ripe and soft. On wednesday, August 15th, I was approx. 1cm and 25-35% effaced according to my midwife at my 39 week visit. At about 2 a.m on friday, I started losing mucous and have been leaking it since then. Today is saturday and I think today may be the day. Contractions are stronger and are becoming more frequent. I just need them to get a steady pattern and we're off! Thanks for all of your advice, tips, and info. I will let you know what happens next.

Saturday was the day! My water broke at 6pm and I had the baby at 8:33am on sunday morning. Aiyana weighed in at 8lbs and measured 20in. Thanks again for all of your advice, and comments.

Hey, all of my babies have been born by C-sec., but I have heard that walking can help, also having sex can help. Wish I had more to offer. Good luck to you and yours.

I was also induced with my first and remember walking and walking trying to make her come natural and that didn't work. I also tried intercourse which didn't work. But my sister told me that her doctor told her to get on her hands and knees and let your stomach hang and I know this sounds crazy but she went into labor the next day. I think her baby was having trouble dropping completely but this really helped. I know its simple but who knows, doesn't hurt to try...Good luck!

i used caster oil with my daughter with blue cohosh (pre-packaged drops from health food store)I think caster oil has a science, which most people don't realize. I took two teaspoons in some apple juice, then thirty minutes later i took two more until it worked. ask a local midwife/ doula though. While i took the caster oil i took the drops every thirty minutes until my labor was progressing steady. make sure you have had time to sit "alone" and take to aiyana and help relieve any fears you and her may have about the upcoming birth. Making sure to address the technicals from the baby's point of view. For me letting her experience be the focus i was able to let my motherly love nurture us both through the gift of birth.
I know you'll do great!

With my last pregnancy I was trying to avoid a c-section also and did a membrane sweep at my doctors office at 38 weeks but that was early because I had preeclamsia and had to be hospitalized so we were trying to induce. It was extremely uncomfortable and caused me to labor but still never dialated after 24+ hours! I had a c-section and it actually was 100x better experience then the first that was not planned. The recovery was 100x better and everything. I got my tubes tied but if I hadn't and was to have another baby I would just do a repeat c-section; thats how impressed I was with the 2nd c-section.

I saw that you have tried castrol oil but how much did you take. I have done it with my last two and it worked both times. I took the whole small bottle of castrol oil, and drank it down with a pepsi, and started walking an hour later I was having contractions. I would try it again if not I have heard black cohash if I spelt that right and also I don't know the exact name for it but it is like a black tiny pebble that you put on a pressure point around your ear. When you put it on the pressure point you have to put pressure on it for about and hour. I had no luck with that though. Let me know if you need anymore help or ideas. Good luck

If you are attempting a VBAC, I personally would not do anything to induce, even pitocin. Induction increases the risk of placental abruption, which you are at a risk for at any rate due to the previous c-section. Please, please, please, don't do anything without the advice of your doctor or midwife!!

Good luck!

I tried Castor oil, fennel, raspberry tea, spicy food, lots of walking, lots of sex, pinching my toes together (don't ask). You name it, I tried it. My husband maintains that it was his chili that induced me- if you want to use his recipe, follow the directions on the side of a can of Chili Magic.

I will say this- when my contractions started, I did an enema. After that, the contractions came hard and fast and I had my baby less than 30 minutes later, barely after arriving at the hospital. It was very scary, very intense, and I would NOT recommend it to anyone.
