Hello moms,

I am getting help from a nanny to drop off my 8 year old kid to a summer camp location. I do the pick up.So the nanny's job is to just drive him to a location 10 miles from my house. I am not sure what is a reasonable rate to offer her. Please let me know if you have any similar experience.

Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks for the responses...I am using a nanny since my kid if comfortable with her.She takes care of babysitting him at other occasions and usually I pay her 15$/hour ( $25 minimum per day). Since this is just a drop off,I wanted to find out what the usual norm is.

Is this a friend nanny who is going out of her way to also pick up your kiddo? I would probably offer Flat $10 a day for the driving. I would not try to figure miles etc. Because yes it's ten miles there but unless she lives there she has to get home and she's doing you a needed favor. I hate the comparing of a daycare centers fees to other service fees. Some daycare do get $11a day that is the amount public aid pays the center and there is a co pay the parent pays out of pocket. So those are apples to oranges comparisons.

I would probably just give her $10 a day. Not really sure why you call her a nanny. (or really, what daycare rates have to do with anything) Does she nanny for you at other times, and that's why you think it's relavent?

If she's doing other things as well, that could be relevant, but I think $10 a day gives her some gas money plus a little extra for her time.

If she is using her own car and gas then $6 a day should suffice. It sounds up nicely to $30 a week too.

Why are you calling her a nanny if she just picks him up and transports him to camp? Wouldn't that just be someone acting as a taxi for you? I'd pay her a few dollars for gasoline then for half an hour of care.

If she drives a vehicle that gets 15 miles per gallon then a gallon and a half of gasoline more than covers her gas and mileage costs. If she gets better gas mileage than that she is probably using less than a gallon of gas for each trip.

So I would think less than $10 each day. But I come from a child care background and a center only gets between $11 and $16 for a whole day's care plus meals and snacks for a school aged child.

IRS says 50 cents a mile.. I would pay her from your house to the camp.. and then back to her place.. then round up.. as you need her help.. it is not much time so you have to pay some $$ to keep her working for you.
