Naming Help for 3Rd Boy

My husband and I are having a difficult time naming our 3rd child. Our first two were fairly easy, but we are having a 3rd boy and it is more difficult this time around. I know it is our decision but I was hoping to get some other opinions. We have kind of agreed on either Max or Parker as first names. We like them both but there is not one that sticks out. If we go with Parker, I think we have a middle name decided on but have a hard time coming up with a middle name for Max. I should mention that if we went with Max, it would just be Max and not Maxwell. Our other boys' names are Dylan and Brady so of course the names would have to sound good together. If anyone has any opinions or suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What can I do next?

My kneejerk response: Your other two children have two syllable names so Parker flows well with the two existing siblings.

A name that we are holding on to for our next boy is Holden.
Why? Because we were always "holdin'" our firstborn who had colic & joked that we should have names him that.

I'm SO not helpful, but I like both. Just wanted to mention, though, that my first two are Jack and Kate -- those are their names, not nicknames. Most people ask if my son is John or Jackson, or if m daughter is Katherine. But we liked Jack and we liked Kate, and that is what we decided to name them. When we had our third, we really liked Charles for a name, among others. I had a number of people point out that our first two had one syllable names, and suggest other one syllable names. At the end of the day, we decided to go with the name we liked best for our son -- not the one that "flowed" best with the other three. You wont' spend your life saying "Dylan, Brady and Max" of "Dylan, Brady and Parker" so I wouldn't worry so much about naming them something that "goes together" if that's not what you like best. Think of each child as an individual, and name them something that you like for that child on his own. That's my advice! And from there, individually, I like both names, LOL! Good luck -- either way you've got a winner!

Congrats on your third boy! My brother has three and calls them his hat trick. I bet they'll have lots of fun wrestling in another year or two!

I like both. There's a really great kid named Parker in school with my boys. He's super smart, cute, polite, very athletic and not full of himself or boastful. Just a really nice kid who's a pleasure to have around. I think it helps to think of his name in the context of when he's an adult as that's what he'll be for most of his life.

As for middle names (first names, too), we used family names. They were mostly from my family because I felt they would always have my husband's last name no matter what. Baby A is Daniel Joseph. (Daniel because it's my favorite boy's name and my father's name; Joseph after my husband and a long line of Joseph's on both his maternal & paternal sides.) Baby B is William Thomas. (William because it's my mother's father's name; Thomas because it was my maiden name.) On the other hand, my daughter, our firstborn, got her very own name without any family ties.

There is a book called the Baby Name Wizard. You can find it at Barnes and Noble or the library, i am sure. It gives you not only information on the name, but also brother and sister's names that go along with each name. There is also a ton of other infomation on names.

Do you have any male family members you'd like to pay tribute to like your Dads? If it was a boy this time we were going to name him Charles Kenneth (after my husbands grandfather and my Dad) but call him Charlie. But it's another girl...so a boy name is out.
We also liked Gavin, Alexander, Lucas, Samuel. Hope you find something you like. Good luck!!!!

Why not use Parker as the middle name for Max? I think Max Parker sounds good especially when yelling it when he's in trouble! :-)

Good luck,

what about paxton? kinda a mix of both, and a little bit different. just a thought. parker has been done a million times, it's a big fad name right now, so of the two you have i'd go with max. i hate trend names! (granted, my son's name is adan, and now there are a billion of them too- thank goodness we spelled it a little differently!)

I agree with Adansmama on Paxton! I haven't heard that name and it is a good mix of both. Try saying it combined with your last name to see how it flows. I think naming our children is a very hard job. You want something that will suit their personalities and will allow them to be taken seriously in the future. I only have one girl and her name is Madalyn Rose. She's named after my great grandmother who was Margaret Rose. I think naming a boy would be difficult, not to mention naming three!! I love the names of your other boys and Paxton flows with them nicely. Good luck and follow up to let us know what you picked!

How about Asher? I heard someone recently suggest it to a friend who is having a baby boy in May. Other boy favorites that have been suggested over the years in my large extended family include: James, Dalton, Hudson, Tucker, Samuel, Reid... Good luck! Oh, and I just found out last week that the name Isaac means "laughter" so that might be a nice possibility, too.

I like both actually. You didn't include your last name so I am not sure I can be helpful with the middle name because it all needs to flow. Please don't use Paxton. It sounds so trendy and remember that bad movie a couple years ago "K-Pax"? I think either name will go with your other boys and I really like the suggestion of a family name. Why not maybe a historical name? Our son is Wyatt after Wyatt Earp and his middle name is Alexander (a family name and also after Alexander the Great) Have fun with it and have fun with your 3 boys!!!

I like the name Max.
I had a hard time with my 3rd and decided on Alex. Not Alexander just Alex. When going to the doctor or anything they always assume its short for Alexander. My Alex doesn't have a middle name. I couldn't think of anything to go with it so he never got one. The only time no middle name doesn't work is when they are getting in trouble and they have no trouble name.(my oldest used to call his middle name his trouble name)
