Naked 2Yr Old Boy!!! Loves to Take off His Clothes All Day Long.

How do I get my two year old from taking off his clothes. I solved the diaper removal by duct taping his diaper tabs but he can still get off his clothes. I tried putting on his pj's backwards so the zipper is in the back but he still can stretch everything from the top down. I tried putting on tighter clothes and he can still remove them. His shirts have the snap crotch- can can pull them off. I have tried one piece outfits - still can get them off. In seconds out of view he is naked again. I don't have the time to dress him all day long with two other toddlers in the house. Now my older 3 year old son does the same thing because he thinks its cool. I can say to myself "don't let it bother me" but in the winter it just bothers me. If it was summer I would ignore the behavior. Now they are both running around with runny noses.

What can I do next?

You are not alone! :) My 4 1/2 yr old son STILL runs around in his undies no matter the season - and when I hug him he's always warm (he had a TON of heat rash as a baby, even in winter, so he just runs warm). I've basically set some ground rules such as he must be fully clothed before meals and going to play in the basement, and otherwise I just leave him be. My almost 3 yr old daughter has started to copy her brother, but she's pretty content in panties and a dress. Good luck to you!

First of all, you get sick from viruses. Not from being cold. Secondly, if he was cold, you would know it end he would ask for clothes.
Our son, almost five now, has been running around without clothes since he was a small toddler. What's the big deal? If he's at home playing, why fight it? Our apartment is very chilly, but our son is rarely sick and never complains of being cold. He's running around playing when he's home. We don't make a big deal about it. At other peoples houses clothes are a must. But why make yourself crazy at home? Especially at two or three years old. I'd say go straight for the potty training since he's already naked. And forget about duct tape. Put him in pull ups or training pants and take advantage of the whole naked situation.

I second J. D that cold air does not give you a runny nose, or a cold, of make you sick in general. Kids this age are figuring out their bodies and have no modesty. My daughter has been naked for almost 2 years now and my 2 year old son has just started.

Someone told me there is a study that being naked is great for the brain - your body feels things it wouldn't normally feel. I tried to find the link but couldn't. I guess there's a study for everything!

Our rule is that if someone is coming over, they have to be dressed. If we are going outside and when we eat a meal, they have to be dressed. When we set these paramaters, the kids felt comfortable and there are no fights.

As my son is not potty trained though, I have started duct taping his diaper b/c he'll eliminate all over the house. We are working on potty training!

Good luck - it won't last forever and if you're gonna be naked, now's the time to do it! :)

if you have the heat on in your house, i don't think that them running around naked is going to make them sick, any more than if they ran around naked in the air conditioning in the summer.
:-) The runny noses could be allergies... I've been giving my daughters children's zyrtec, and it really helps with their runny noses.

anyway, i also have a nudest. I honestly believe that clothes are just too hot for her... because she sleeps naked next to a drafty window. she goes to bed with pj's on, but by morning, she has them off. She finally wears panties (MOST of the time!!!)... and that is a victory for us. haha!!!! i did have to potty train her early, because I was so tired of cleaning the carpet. I don't find that it is worth the fight trying to keep getting her dressed.. .it's exhausting.
Good luck!!!!!

My 2 yr-old son has been doing the 'nakey' thing for weeks now. He will pull his pants down and yell nakey and then pull them back up. Or he will strip down to his diaper and run around and yell nakey until I catch him and get him dressed again. Eh, it's a phase and I am not worried about it.

Toddlers seem to do that... For whatever reason it seems like it was a phase they all went through. It last a couple of months then they were over it. I would just ignore it. Maybe turn your heat up a notch if you think its to cold for them but honestly I woud just ignore it. I am a big fan of picking your battles...

I don't know, but based on my husband's younger brother, I can tell you he'll be getting teased about it for 30 years or longer!

Maybe you could try having "naked time" every morning, and after that everyone puts on their clothes? You could also experiment with different types of clothing. My son really hated anything constricting (like snap crotches, buttons, blue jeans). My other son likes the feeling of just a long t-shirt and undies before bed (some girls only wear dresses, so it makes sense some boys might like that bare-leg feeling too, I guess.) Good luck!

my 2 and 3 yr old girls do the same. i haven't figured out a way to keep their clothes on. some days they'll not want to be naked, but several days a week we're dealing with "nakey!" calls from them and clothes flying everywhere! :) it was cute for a while (and i still try to remember they're just toddlers, so it's still sorta cute), but i understand the frustration. mine don't take theirs off at night because they know they'll be cold. maybe at night just make sure he has blankets on if he won't keep his pajamas on, and during the day - maybe he's not cold. one of the other posters is correct - you do get sick from viruses not the cold, but i know the runny noses can be from being cold (mine runs when i walk outside in the winter!). maybe offer blankets for him to wrap around himself during the day (tell him it's a cape! my girls love it.). it's a phase; i haven't figured a way to combat it yet, except to offer other things - blankets, slippers for their feet, etc. good luck! hopefully tomorrow, we'll get word that the groundhound says spring is close! :)

Do they take their clothes off even when they are cold? Perhaps one way to discourage the behavior would be to turn your thermostat down to a level that would necessitate clothing to feel comfortable.

I know what your going through my 6 year old is still doing it I dont let him take off his undies but he runs around with no shirt or socks '

he started doing this around the age of 2 at first I was concern specially in the winter because I thought he would be cold but I really dont think that they are I have asked my son and he says he feels comfortable naked and when he does get cold he will wear a t shirt

so I would just suggest to let them run wild lol I think its just a face that they are going through as long as he does not do it in public

good luck!

My almost four year old daughter still runs around naked all the time (she wears underwear). I just don't get her dressed until we have to leave the house--that way I'm not trying to find where she left her socks, pants, or shirt.
