There is a product that's called "goof off" - it's made to clean up paint spills, etc. I used it before, and it worked great. You can find it at a hardware store - Home Depot, Lowes.

I'm sorry to say I have no idea how to get the stain out, but in the future, if your dd still wants the room to be "pretty" Target sells these great room decals that won't stain white walls and can be easily removed. We have them in my dd's room and we love them. They are about $14.99, if memory serves. :)

Dear S.:
Contact your nearest local hardware store. There are paint strippers that will take off anything. Please be careful of the fumes....but they work. Your local hardware store owners usually know all the tricks when mom's have to do the tough clean-ups.
Good luck,
E.

Not sure if you will ever be able to get that off. Don't worry though-it should be fairly easy to take care of yourself at a minimal charge. I would just sand it, prime it and then paint it. I have never heard of using a paint stripper but then again I am not real handy when it comes to that kind of thing.

You can try the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It works wonders. I am not sure of you have heard of it. It is a little white pad (looks like an eraser). It has worked on everything I have used it on. My friend tried it on nail polish and it worked. You could also try the rough edge of a sponge. That might work also with some acetone on it. Hopefully this helps :)

If you are going to repaint, no need to purchase a large amount of paint or even a quart. They are selling these "try out" sizes now. I think Home Depot has them. Smaller than a quart and less than $5.00. Do use KILZ - that comes in a quart size. Be sure to sand it first. The whole fix should be less than $20. I don't blame your daughter - white walls are boring :) Maybe someday she will be a designer and you'll have a great story to tell. Best of luck.

have you tried straight acetone.it's a lot stronger then nail polish remover.also what about paint thinner.put some on a rag and just carefully wipe the red nail polish.you could always scrape it and repaint it yourself.im sure it will cost a lot less then what your apt would charge.also did you try speaking to someone in the paint department at lowes or home depot.i know they sell products for things like this.best of luck to you!

S.,
I wonder why the nail polish remover isn't working? Hmmmm....is it spilled on a painted surface? Or marble? If it's painted, all I can think is that you could get some of that stuff that covers (is it called KILZ?) anything and then throw another coat of white over it yourself.

If its lumpy I would use a razor blade to scrape it down to level with the rest of the sill. Then I would buy some white nail polish & paint over the red. It won't look perfect, but it shouldn't be noticable.

Sand it down smooth (I wouldn't bother with chemical strippers, which will take ALL the paint off and risk your other paint, floors, skin, etc), use KILZ (which covers ANYTHING!) or even white fingernail polish, then a coat of the exact same paint originally used. I keep a gallon of the "antique white" in my apt. so I can just touch up any nicks, spatters and scuffs anytime--keeps it looking nice for ME as well as saving my deposit!)
Best of luck.

Get some sandpaper, and sand it down till it's all level, then paint over it with stain-killing primer, then paint again with white paint. Just match to the apt--whether it's flat white or glossy white, or whatever. This is not that hard to do and shouldn't cost you more than maybe 20-30 dollars, if you go to home depot/lowe's and get the smallest size of each product, cheap brushes, etc. Good luck, and don't worry--by the time you move out, they will be expecting a little wear and tear on the paint, so it will not be noticeable. And maybe get your daughter some huge paper to hang on her walls, so she can draw on them and make her room pretty.

Ok, worst case scenario--you go and buy more white paint and repaint it yourself. I would first try using "Goof Off" and if that doesn't work, paint thinner, and if those both fail try lighter fluid. Make sure you don't mix the items together and PLEASE wash the area before you do try the next item. The nail polish remover you used--was it non-acetone? If so, try the acetone based. Also, WalMart carries nail polish remover pads that I find work MUCH better than the remover in the bottle. Best of luck!!!
