Hi Creative Moms - I need help, my son is turning 6 right at the end of the month & he wants to have a "scary scooby-doo sleepover". He will have three of his good buddies over & I was thinking of having them sleep in a tent in my living room unless it's not too cold out that night. I've recorded the latest Scooby Doo movie (lake monster) for them to watch but was also trying to think of a mystery they could solve that night. Any ideas? How do I do the clues? Also, I may be able to buy a few adult scooby & gang costumes, should I or is that goofy? Thanks in advance for any ideas!

What can I do next?

How about a scavenger hunt with clues for them to solve? Each clue would need to be something that a 6 year old can figure out, maybe just an item rather than a written clue. Give them the first clue, then have them decide where they should look for the next clue. Allow them to work it out themselves and get excited by the challenge of the hunt.

I have been taking my daughter out on "spooky" scavenger hunts around the neighborhood with a flashlight. You can do the same for the boys. get some dollar store flashlights and take them around the neighborhood. Give them a list of stuff to find. My DD is 4 and we do stuff like 3 witches, 2 pumpkins, a ghost. . . etc. You can just adjust for his age! Sounds like fun mama. . . I wanna have a scary scooby party!

Sounds like a lot of fun. I think you could do a mystery the same way as you do a treasure hunt. If they can read you can give them the clues in writing, otherwise you could draw them. I think it would be funny to do something slightly spooky. I.e.

First clue: Find the skeleton in the closet. (the skeleton holds the second clue, etc.)
Second clue: Mummy in Mommy's bed.
Third clue: Spider in the basement
Fourth clue: Ghost in the laundry room
etc.
You could also weave the treasure hunt into a story. I.e. the missing birthday cake or something like that and in the end they find the birthday cake.

Halloween decorations would be perfect props for this game. I also would make the house semi-dark so that they can use their flashlights for the hunt. The flashlight could then be given to the kids to keep in lieu of a goody bag.
