The ones that tell you to pay them before you get a job: my friend did that against my advice, and never got any money from it. Basically, for your money, they send you a list of companies that you have to contact yourself and see (a) do you do mystery shopping? (b) will you hire me? (c) ok, well then who do I have to go through to get this occassional minimal paying job since you won't hire me directly?

There was a company in Baton Rouge that I used that was legitimate, but YOU DID NOT PAY THEM, THEY PAID YOU. It was only for JC Penny though, and I think I got $10/visit. It was when I was younger, and I'd swing by on the way home from work when they asked me to, and get my $10 in the mail after submitting the information online which I considered gas money.....back when $10 could be considered gas money. But to tell the truth, it was occassional, and the form was so detailed and had to be filled out just right...and the amount of time I took to do the shopping at all the different sections, and then get online and do it correctly (had to be complete and done right or you don't get paid)...only a teenager with time on their hands would find that worthwhile. A part time job somewhere (anywhere) would be more lucrative.

There are a few that are legit, but won't pay very much. Don't respond to any that say they will send you a cetified check. The checks are fake and it takes the bank a while to discover that. Then you are stuck with repaying the bank.

Sounds fishy. You already know...."if it sounds too good to be true, then it is probably a scam"

Try something else. Sometimes I do focus groups. You do have to qualify for the study and it's only 1-3 times a year. Most I've been paid is $200 cash in 2 hours.

Schlessinger is a good reliable source for focus groups.

Second to None and Market Force are both legit. One does banks, Kelly Paints, health insurance, the other does Sonic, McDonald's, Catos, Starbucks, Circuit City, and tons of others. They do not pay well for the amount of time it takes. I tried McDonald's and it took about an hour to download, print, and read all the material. Then you have to do the inside order and a drive through order. It takes about 30 minutes because you have to eat the food inside for the inside order. Then it takes about 30 or more minutes to fill out the paperwork and submit it; if you mess anything up, they don't pay you. You get something like $12 plus reimbursement for your food and they tell you what to order. Also you have to be alone! There is nothing to lose in trying it but I did not find it to be worth my time. I wouldn't trust Craig's list...

I think most of the job postings on Craigslist like that are bogus!

I've done a few myster shopper jobs but never made much. You should never work from someone who wants you to pay them first!!!! That's bad news!

I haven't had luck with surveys or mystery shopper jobs at all but I joined a friend's site a few months back and it has been awesome so far! It is basically an opportunity to save a lot of money on all of your shopping, dining and entertainment and a simple way to make money on top of it! His site is at http://nealstout6079msn.MyWorldMoms.com and you can request info at no charge or obligation. It also does not cost much to get involved if you like what you see and you can also get out of it at any time you want. Check it out!

Scam Alert! Be careful of the mystery shopping scams going on. NEVER, EVER cash a check you are sent to perform a mystery shop; this is a huge red flag. Legitimate Mystery Shopping Providers certainly pay you for your mystery shopping efforts, however this happens AFTER you have performed the shop. Read this article to find out how to find a legitimate mystery shopping company: http://www.wikihow.com/Find-a-Legitimate-Mystery-Shopping... . Hey S.! It seems to me that almost always those online survey taker and mystery shopping jobs are scams. I got laid off in April and I was trying my hardest to stay home with my now 21 month old son. I finally found a girl that is doing something called Internet CEO Moms. This group of moms are the most positive people I have ever encountered and I am LOVING working with them. Maybe you should try it out. It is TOTALLY legit. You can visit my site at www.4theLoveofMyFamily.com. If you are interested you can just fill out request more information and I can give you a call and explain it more. Hope to hear from you soon!
