Myringotomy Tubes

My daughter's first set of tubes lasted about 12 months. after the second set was placed, she had some sort of reaction to the tube in one ear that the ent had only seen once before. it needed to be replaced but the ent did not charge anything for the replacement. We did have to pay our coinsurance for the anesthesiologist and part of the surgery center (i believe the ent called them and got us a discount- at least on our coinsurance). the replacement tube has made it 11 months so far. good luck.

Does she nurse? I wonder why so many children have ear challenges and the norm seems to be getting younger and younger. There is a blood test that tests for 90 foods for allergic reaction. The lab I had mine done by was Metametrix years ago. When we eat foods our body prefers not to have sometimes it responds with excess mucus to get it out of our body. Sometimes that can cause excess fluid in the ear and/or sinuses ... sometimes eventually ear infections. We can be very allergic to foods and never realize it. I am highly allergic to eggs. When I was in graduate school I was eating eggs every day. At one point my body was just not feeling right. I just felt slow, sluggish. After the allergy test... huge allergy to eggs... I stopped eating eggs and all was well. It may be worth checking out with a nutritionist.
Also, I have found getting a chiropractic adjustment can support the body to better respond, and find homeostasis faster.

I would get a second opinion from another ENT. Doesn't sound like they were put in right the first time. Both my kids have had tubes now (5 sets between the two of them!) and the fastest they fell out was at about 8 months. 4 weeks is definitely not enough. And if your child needed tubes 4 weeks ago, I'm sure she still needs them now.

This happened to us, we probably got more than 4 weeks, but the tubes did not stay in place nearly as long as the ENT estimated. My son had a second set of tubes installed, what the ENT nicknamed "T-tubes". They have T-shaped flanges that hold them in place, similar to the things you put into sheetrock to hang pictures and such. That's how the ENT explained it to us. One of those still managed to come out in about 6 mos., but the other hung in there for 3 years and now he's ready to have it removed. Which also has to be done as outpatient surgery, just like the install. Even with just the one tubes the ear infections were drastically reduced.

I had this happen with 1 set of tubes(I've had 9 between 7-23).They usually put it back in esp if there is still fluid build up.My ears are very tiny and don't drain properly.I hope she gets them back in and they work to stop her ear infections
