My son is eighteen months old and he is still in his diapers. We can only use huggies, that's all that we could find that will not give him a rash. We change his diaper often, have used just about every rash ointment/cream on the market, and we've taken him to the doctor and the doctor has stated that there is nothing else he can prescribe for his rashes because he's already been prescribed everything thats the doctor could imagine. What can I do for this? I hate to see the poor child cringe everytime I change his butt.

I tried the lotrimin that worked a little bit, alternated that with baking soda paste and Aquafor, which is basically a fancy pertroleum jelly but it worked great. I also put some baking soda in his bath water to soothe it. I suppose I'll have to continue this process whether he has a rash or not just to make sure that if it comes back it doesn't get so bad. Thanks again though I appreciate it!!!!

mix a cup of solid grease or shortning and 1/2 cup cornstarch and 1/2 cup powder sugar and keep that on his lil bottom its cheap and works wonders i used it on my daughter when she was 5 months on because of her being on constant atibiotics for server infections she stayed with yeast infections that caused severe diaper rash no matter how often we changed her. I promise its a life saver and cheap.
Hi J., I think all of the responses sound great. If they don't work maybe you could take him to a dermatologist to be evaluated.
My daughter used to get really bad rashes until we started to limit her milk intake. I only give her 3 cups a day and make sure that she doesn't eat too many acidic fruits. She hasn't had a rash in over three months. Sometimes little buts are sensitive to their own urine and bowel movements! I am sure you change him often and there is really no way to not have it ever touch him except to potty train. I know it is a little early, but if he is ready you might try! I hope it helps!
Usually Butt Paste would do the job for us, but one time my son got a HORRIBLE rash that ate the skin away on his tush. I found that plain old petroleum jelly helped a lot more than any diaper rash cream. The problem we had with this particular rash was that the diaper creams would not "stick" to the sores, so where the rash had eaten his skin, the rash would not really be covered and the area would still be exposed to moisture. But PJ covered everything and sealed it up so it could heal. I hope this helps!! Poor baby!

Also something to check out what is he eating? I know there were somethings both of my kids would eat and it would just burn there bottom really bad. Balm ex worked well. But i had to stop giving them those kinds of foods. Orange juice, oranges, anything with tomatoes. But once they where potty trained we didn't have that problem and they could eat what they wanted. But sounds like it's going better. Just thought I would throw in my 1 1/2 cents.
My sister dau was that same way. The ONLY diaper they could use was huggies. Their dr. said it was a type of excema (sp?). he suggested giving some diaper free time so she's wasn't "sweating" inside the diaper. Once she got to were she could stand, it pretty much disappeared, i guess because gravity pulled it way from her skin. Their dr. said the best thing to do was be very diligent at changing and sometimes even pat dry or make sure totally dry b4 putting new diaper on.
This is just what worked for me.....ever since my little girl was born we would always use vaseline on her bottom. That's all I have ever used and some of the diaper rash creams lik desitin are harder on their little bottoms because of how hard you need to wipe to get them off. She has never gotten a diaper rash. I would also like to invite into possibility that maybe the wipes you are using are causing his rash...some babies just cannot handle them, even if they ar unscented and no alcohol and everything else. Try using a warm washcloth instead of wipes and letting his "bottom" air dry before you apply the diaper. You can use the vaseline every diaper change and all that will do is serve as a skin protectant to keep excriment away from the skin until you change his diaper next! Please try this I really think it might work for you! Let me know how it goes!
My dughter does not get rashes often, but when she does we use But Paste. I'm not sure if you have tried it, if not give it a try. You can get it probably anywhere, but Safeway for sure.

I know you have received many responses, but I thought this might help. My daughter is 2 1/2 and still in diapers and has HORRIBLE diaper rashes all the time. We tried prescription stuff and it worked for a while, but then stopped. We recently switched pediatricians and she suggested the following:
2 oz. (or 1/2 a tube) A & D ointment (the yellow kind, not cream)
1/2 oz. (or 1/2 a tube)zinc oxide ointment
2 T. Bacitracin ointment(antibiotic ointment)
2 T. Maalox
2 T Lotrimin AF
Mix all this together with a plastic spoon and store in the fridge. Our pediatricion said that most diaper rashes have a yeast component to them and that's what the Lotrimin covers. We have been using it faithfully and her bottom has cleared up significantly!!! And, if you belong to some kind of Flexible Spending Account with your job, you can get all these items pre-tax with your reimbursement account. Hope it helps.

My oldest always had that problem and we ended up getting some great stuff called AQUAFOUR. It's used for burns and such. It has the look and feel of Petroleum Jelly but works much better I think. We heard of this product after her regular doc wouldn't help us anymore and it got to the point she couldn't sit. We took her to the ER and that is what the doc there suggested. It cleared it right up. At walmart its available off the shelf at other stores it is sometimes kept behind the pharmacy counter. Hope it helps.
Have you tried "Butt Paste"? My daughter was that way, and when the Nystatin didn't work, that would. I bought it at KMart I believe. Maybe a cornstarch paste. Poor little guy. I know how you feel, and it is so frustrating. Let me know if you have already tried these things. I have a sister that is big on home remedies etc. I will ask her what she thinks.
Sounds to me like he might have a yeast infection on his bottom. I too am a mom of three kids and my middle boy had that problem. I was told to try Lotrimin (antifungal cream that you can get at the store). It worked so well and thank goodness. When our children are in pain, so are we!!!

Maybe you can try Lotrimin (athlete's foot cream). We used this on our son when he had a bad yeast infection rash after taking antibiotics. His rash cleared up almost immediately. Be sure to apply it every time you chance his diaper.
hello this is R. and respnding to your request well im 36 yrs old and four kids in know how you feel, have you used baking soda or flour this is and old old home remidie and i has worked on two of my kids i have two who were verry sensitive to everything i had to use cloth diapers on one becaues he was sensative and you might want to think about the juices your son is drinking i had to dilute apple grape all the jucies becaues of the acid in the fruit, made him break out in rashed when he went potty in the diaper and some diapers don't breath verry well, have you just let him run around neked to let the skin breath and air out it helps these are just a few suggestions because some or most ointments are oil based and dont really help to dry up the rashes, these are just some ideas and hope they help the little man their, take care and the best of luck.

Ask your doctor if it might be exima. That is what my son has and they gave us elidel and it works great.
