My daughter went through that phase.. she hated it.. she's fine now.. we just washed her up with wash cloth during the week and then once a week we battled with her for a bath. Since she is a girl I liked her you know what to soak.. so I made her take a bath atleast once a week. but I guess with a boy it's easy just to wash him up! he'll get over it.

Try taking a shower with him. My son loves it when he gets a "mommy shower". We take some waterproof toys into the tub (his favorites are things he can fill with water and pour out) and he loves it!

My son and I took a tots and moms "swimming class" at the YMCA when he was about 13 months. There was not any swimming involved, it was really just a class where kids learned not to be scared of the water. We sang and played with water toys, and I was right there in the water with him. I think this really helped to make him enjoy the water. You should look into your local YMCA and see if they offer this class.

Bathe him anyway, you are the boss, he will get used to it. Maybe try to figure out if there is something in particular that he doesn't like about it, like getting water in his eyes. That might help you find ways to alleviate some of the distress he associates with water.

An I'm the boss attitude may be a part of the reason he doesn't like water. To overcome this dislike I think that you are more likely to have success if you can play in the water with him. Make being around water fun. I agree with the sponge bath idea. And including toys and songs in the routine. Perhaps sit him on the counter next to the sink while giving him a sponge bath. You splash and play in the water.

Forcing him will only make him more frightened. He needs to know that the water is fun and safe.
