I have a 2 year old that is sick. She has really soft bowels movements. Well they are almost like watery and the doctor said that it was normal. She has had them for 2 days now and has had loss of appetite and she is not even drinking her milk anymore. He said it would go away in a few days and she would be back to normal. Has anyone experienced this? and What did you do to help w/the bowels.

What can I do next?

Use the BRAT diet - and it's bananna, rice, apple sauce and toast (not tea). And keep pushing liquids. No milk/ dairy (cheese). Also try probiotics to help to get the good bateria back into her system. It sounds like there is a virus present and you will just need to ride it out.

No milk, but my ped recommended Florastor Kids - you have to ask the pharmacist for it although it is over the counter. you just add it to water (tastes yummy) and it helps cut the time of the watery stool by several days! plus it keeps them hydrated.

I definitely recommend the Florastor. My 4 year old had diarrhea for over a month this summer and also complained of a terrible belly ache. She went thru many, many tests and everything came back fine. We finally used the Florastor and she was better within 4 or 5 days. We opened the capsules and poured the powder into her applesauce. It worked great! Apparently the bacteria in her belly/intestines was just out of balance and the probiotic got it all back in order.

Hope your little one feels better soon. It's awful to watch your kids have problems. Good luck!

Both of my girls had a tummy virus in Sept. with soft bowel movements that lasted TEN DAYS! Milk made it worse, and the doc said no dairy. I did follow the BRAT diet- bananas and applesauce at most meals with other bland food (the doc said chicken broth too, since it's a "clear liquid"). I also bought the powdered probiotic at CVS (I had to ask the pharmacist for it- they keep it behind the counter). you can add it to the applesauce. Good luck and I hope she's better soon!

B., try things like bannas, rice, applesauce, and tea. It is called the brat diet and it is good when the kids stomachs are a little touchy. If she does'nt feel better soon I would call the Doctor again. Could she be teething? Good Luck! Hope she feels better soon.

My son was really sick a few months ago, with diarhea and eventually was throwing up. The dr said to eliminate the milk,& be careful with how much juice he drank also. She said to make sure he was drinking alot of water and to give him pedialyte to help avoid dehydration. As for food, anything they are willing to eat at this point, as long as you keep her drinking, she will eat when she is hungry. You just dont want her to become dehydrated.

I would let her eat crackers. Definitely give her pedialyte. The last thing you want, is for her, to get dehydrated.
