My Shirts with Holes in Them!!

I've been asking around, and everyone else seems to think I'm crazy - Every time I buy a shirt lately (T-shirt type material), I get holes forming right around the belly-button area! A lot of times this happens on the very first day that I wear the shirt - before I've even washed it once! This is numerous brands: Old Navy, Gap, Maurices, Target, Kohl's, Carsons, Roots (from Canada)... I do not wear belts, I wear many different kinds of jeans, I do not have moths, I have not changed laundry detergent... The only thing is it has happened mostly in the last year or two, and my twins are 16 months old. Is it just from picking them up, holding them, them now standing in my lap... But then I would think that other mothers of young kids would be having the same problems, and I can't find anyone else yet! It is literally no less than a dozen shirts that have turned up with holes within the first time or two of wearing them! Anybody else having this happen? Any thoughts at all?! Thanks....

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, first of all, I'm glad (except for our shirts!) to hear that I'm not the only one with the weird holes in all of my shirts near the belly button area. For me, at least, it's not due to my kids' shoes. I think Rose is the only one who mentioned the only other theory that I had --> it must just be because we are a certain height so that when we're at the sink washing dishes and sippy cups, etc. that our jean's button rubs up against the countertop? That is the only thing I can think of. I definitely used to use the dishwasher for nearly all dirty dishes before I got pregnant. Now, due to sippy cups, kids' dishes, etc., and eating nearly all meals at home vs. when I used to work full-time, I am at the sink numerous times every day. I, like Rose, am now trying very hard not to lean up against the counter when at the sink, plus I'm trying to use my dishwasher more again. I have not noticed any new holes in a while!

Let me know if this helps for others, and/or if you come up with any other ideas! Thanks everyone!

It is so odd that I am reading this post now. I was JUST putting my 1 year old's clothes away, and noticed that many of his shirts get a small hole down towards the bottom too! I was trying to think of what he could possibly be doing to get a similar hole in all of his shirts??? Strange.....

I have the exact same problem. It will happen if you wear mostly jeans or maybe khaki pants that are quite rough and has a button in the front. And after a gazillion shirts with holes, I have finally found some solutions: 1. Don't wear so much rough fabric trousers. 2.Don't carry your child if possible, lol. (this makes your shirt rub agains the button even more). 3.The best solution is to use a thin silk or lace scarf and use it like a belt. Cover up the button area nicely and tie it on the side of the jean. Can be like an accessory. I actually made myself a belt with a strip of fabric that fastens with Velcro and I have no holes ever since. I hope this will help you too.

This is the never-ending mom mystery! My best friend and I have the same problem and are baffled by it. My mom insists that it's moths, but we don't have moths and it's only my clothes. I figure it can't be the washing machine because we wash mixed loads - my kids', husband's, and my clothes all together. I have 22 month old girl/boy twins, and this happened when my daughter was little, too. So it's not some freaky twin thing. But I don't remember having the holes later - like when my older daughter was 3-4 and before my twins were born. They were NEVER in my maternity shirts. I have no answer for you, but I'm still experiencing the same phenomenon! My only solution has been to buy cheap shirts or wear sweaters because I hate ruining the more pricier ones and the sweaters don't have the same problem. I'm both glad and surprised to know that there are many other moms with the same mysterious problem, though I still wonder what's going on!!!

Oh my god! This happens to me ALL the time. I'll have a brand new T-shirt with holes in it after 1 wash... drives me nuts!!
I have no idea what causes it and why its happening.. but its always in the same area... under or around the belly button area. Its very upsetting :(

Finally, someone with the same problem. All my t-shirts have the same holes in them! It is driving me crazy!! This just started happening recently. I have a 10 and a 6 year old but I do take care of a friend's infant. I usually carry her on my hip though. I thought it might be because I stand at the kithen counter so much I tend to lean in on the counter and I rub my midsection against the front of the counter. I have tried to not do this so much. Plus it helps my posture. Not really sure if this is the cause but I haven't found any holes in my new t-shirts.

Do you pick up your twins when they have shoes on? Do they have buckels? I found this to be true with my shirts also. I never noticed them hooking but it was the only thing I could think of.

Hope this helps.

I notice this MUCH more in the summer. I have figured out it was from carrying my son with shoes on. His shoes were pushing my shirt down and tearing against the tops of my pants and buttons on pants...That's just my cause though!!
